Ruben (Hoover) Gaskins, 91, Taylor/Adair Co., KY (1926-2018)

He was a member of New Hope Separate Baptist Church. He had retired from Ingersoll Rand in Campbellsville, KY. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served his country in the U.S. Army, was a Paratrooper in 82nd Airborne. He enjoyed singing & playing guitar with family & friends, an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan. He was a member of a highly regarded family. He was the son of the late Alvin & Mary Ann Williams Gaskins, and the widower of Martha Opal Hubbard Gaskins. He leaves two direct living descendants

Ruben "Hoover" Gaskins, 91 years of Campbellsville, KY formerly of the Ella Community in Adair County passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at 4:42pmET, at Baptist East Hospital, Louisville, KY.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Coffey the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with full Military Honors presented by the local VFW Post 6097. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Monday, February 26, 2018.

He was born on March 13, 1926 in Kokomo, Howard County, IN. He was the son of the late Alvin & Mary Ann Williams Gaskins. He died Friday, February 23, 2018, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 10 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife Martha Opal Hubbard Gaskins on October 1, 2014; two brothers, James Ray Gaskins & Paul Gaskins; two sisters, Inis Stroup & Unema Roberts

He is survived by
  • One son: Doug (Kim) Gaskins of Louisville, KY

  • Sisters: Opal Temple of Russiaville, IN; and Geneva Workman of Louisville, KY

  • One grandson: Conner Gaskins

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • And many other relatives & friends
