CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Organist Kevin Vaughn, director of music and organist at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in South Bend, Ind., instructor of organ at Goshen College and adjunct professor of piano at the University of Notre Dame, will be at Campbellsville University on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 to give a guest recital at 7amCT/8pmET and a masterclass at 3pmCT/4pmET. Both events will be in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N Hoskins Avenue, Campbellsville, KY

The recital is free and open to the public.

Vaughn will be performing works by Litaize, Krebs, Saint-Saens, J.S Bach and Mendelssohn.

Even so, it very likely may have changes in its final form. Adair County School District Dean of Students Robbie Harmon prepared a vest pocket version:2018-19 Adair School District Calendar in Brief. That calendar, with the most important dates for the coming year, the ones least likely to change, should be a better guide to planning, he said.

Mrs. Russell Logan Williams, 103, Cumberland Co., KY native (1914-2018)

Her century of life will be celebrated in Louisville and at a graveside service in Cumberland County in the French-Logan Cemetery. She leaves 44 living decendents.

Mrs. Russell Logan Williams, age 103, passed away on February 11, 2018 in Louisville, KY.

A service to celebrate Russell's life will be held at Expressway Avenue Church of Christ, 4437 S 6th St., Louisville, KY on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 9amCT with burial to follow in the French-Logan Cemetery in Cumberland County at 2pmCT. The family will accept guests at Arch L. Heady Southern Funeral Home, 3601 Taylor Boulevard, Louisville, KY on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 1pm-7pmCT.

Mildred Inez Reynolds Kelly, Green County, KY (1932-2018)

She was a native of the Ebenezer Community of Green County, daughter of the late Daniel Wood Reynolds and Alta Mae Dye Reynolds, born on Sunday, July 10, 1932 in Hart County, KY. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Fry Baptist Church. She was a former lunch room worker for the Green County Board of Education. Her husband of 62 years, Lilburn Glenn Kelly, survives.

Alice Marie Cox Humes, 43, Taylor Co., KY (1975-2018)

She attended Campbellsville University and Spencerian College where she received her degree as a Certified Nursing Assistant. In her spare time, she enjoyed the outdoors, listening to music and dancing. She had been attending Elkhorn Baptist Church. She was a native of Ft. Wayne, IN, and a resident of Campbellsville, KY, at the time of her death. Her husband, James William Humes, survives. She leaves four direct and one step- living descendants.

Mr. Homer Vernon, (Tooter) Grider, Burkesville, KY (1927-2018)

He was a member of Amandaville Christian Church, a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, a Service Man for Brown's Supply, and a member of the Cumberland Lodge #413 F. & A. M. He was a native of Cumberland County, a resident of the county at the time of his death, and his final resting place will be in Perkins Cemetery in Cumberland County. He was patriarch of a large, highly thought of Cumberland County family. He was the son of the late Homer & Ettie (Davidson) Grider. He was one of 12 siblings. With his passing, four three brothers and four sisters survive, residents of Cumberland and Adair County and Cumberland County, KY, and Indiana. He was the widower of the late Nadine Grider. He leaves six direct living descendants.

People magazine is reporting that the next season of the show Top Chef will be filming in Louisville, Lexington, and the Lake Cumberland area. According to the article, filming will begin this spring, with episodes to air later in the year.

"Waves of rainfall across the lower Ohio Valley can be expected through the end of this week. Additional rounds of rain are possible Saturday and then again early next week. Widespread amounts of 2 to locally 4 inches are forecast over the next 7 days, and this could aggravate ongoing flooding problems and also result in new river flooding. Monitor the latest forecasts as the forecast confidence increases in where the heaviest rain will fall over the next several days." - NWS, Louisville, KY

The Adair Fiscal Court, meeting Tuesday, February 13, 2018, in regular session, received good news and checks from Adair Clerk Lisa Greer for $225,000 and Sheriff Harrison Moss for $17,734.96 in excess fees; heard and considered some major economic development news in the from of plans for county-wide natural gas system and new broadband coming this year; released $350,000 in road funds to get an early start on paving roads, bought new equipment for the road department, and were told that the county treasury stood at $1,941,313.76, at the end of January, 2018, among other actions at the session

Appalachian Musical Playground at ACPC

Students at the Adair County Primary Center recently participated in an Appalachian Musical Playground. Students had been studying about the Appalachian Mountains, the people, instruments, and traditional dance styles.

During the Appalachian Playground, students were able to move around to different stations and play with musical spoons, a washboard, guitar, dulcimer, homemade bass, and a Limberjack doll. They also were able to examine a bear skin and try out flat-foot dancing. A good time was had by all!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The former owner of a Louisville specialty food store was sentenced today in United States District Court, by Senior Judge Thomas B. Russell, to 33 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $545,000 restitution for committing Food Stamp fraud, announced United States Attorney Russell M. Coleman. There is no parole in the federal system.
