Nell's was a giant treasure chest - a wonderland of the 60s

Mike Watson writes:
In answer to BC Jim's query for memories of Nell's Variety Store, I submit this bit:

Nell's was, to me, a place much like a giant treasure chest directly from a book or movie. Walking through the door was much akin to being transported into another time, and place, of course. The aroma, a mix of candy, pipe tobacco, and oiled floors mingled to create a wonderland for a youngster of the '60s. To wander the aisles, a maze if you will, en-route to the toy section was a treat almost on par with the brown paper bag of candy upon exit at the end of the dream--and if quite fortunate, with a cap pistol and plenty of ammo. - Mike Watson
