As a result of seeing your photo of it on Columbia Magazine weeks back during in my morning browse of important global news sites, I put resolving this so-called 50-milion-year-old puzzle on my list of intellectual challenges.

Former Russell Co., teacher, sentenced to 60 months in prison

Activity took place during a two-year period. Assistant United States Jo E. Lawless prosecuted the case. The Russell Springs Police Department conducted the investigation.

LOUISVILLE, KY - (19 Jul 2017) A Russell County, Kentucky, resident and former teacher, convicted of a crime involving the sexual exploitation of a minor, was sentenced in United States District Court yesterday, by District Judge Greg N. Stivers, to serve 60 months in prison, followed by a ten year period of supervised release and register as a sex offender in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, announced United States Attorney John E. Kuhn, Jr. There is no parole in the federal prison system.

The first, small measure of closure came today, Saturday, July 23, 2016, to a nightmare week which began with the news that a popular young Adair County couple had lost their lives in a terrible boating accident on Lake Lanier in Georgia where they'd gone with their friends from Mt. Washington, KY for a charity boat race.

Traffic Advisory - Oil spill on KY 883 & KY 323 in Taylor County

There has been an oil spill on KY 883 (Mile Points 2-4) and KY 323 (Mile Points 1-5) in Taylor County. This area is in the Sweeneyville Community. One incident has been reported, possibly due to reduced pavement traction.

Lavender creekside blossom -- Monarda Fistulosa is its name

Scrolling past Linda's photo on Monday I said to myself, "Monarda fist-----?" My eastern wildflower book wasn't readily noticeable in the tipple on my desk, so I put the ID of the plant in the mental file labeled 'later.'

As serendipity would have it, my attention was caught today by a bushy wild plant in bloom above the retaining wall where Mose Miller used to hitch buggy horses when visitors arrived.

Ag lenders provide freezers for Kentucky food pantries

FRANKFORT (19 Jul 2017) -- In every Kentucky community, urban and rural, there's a food insecurity problem. One in six Kentuckians is not always sure where their next meal is coming from. For children, the number is one in five. To help solve this challenge, agricultural lenders Farm Credit Mid-America and CoBank are providing chest freezers to more than 120 food pantries across the state.

The freezers will enable increased donation and distribution of Kentucky-raised beef, pork and poultry as part of Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles' Hunger Initiative.

In honor of their exceptionally high exam scores, three Campbellsville High School graduates and a rising senior have been named AP Scholars.

At CHS, Blair Lamb, Laura Lamb and Murphy Lamb, who graduated from CHS in May, were named AP Scholars, as was Bryce Richardson, who will be a senior at CHS in the fall.
