The first, small measure of closure came today, Saturday, July 23, 2016, to a nightmare week which began with the news that a popular young Adair County couple had lost their lives in a terrible boating accident on Lake Lanier in Georgia where they'd gone with their friends from Mt. Washington, KY for a charity boat race.

The news on Friday, July 15, 2016 of the fears that the Anthony and Tammy Reece may have been killed in a boating accident was met with disbelief and hopes that it could somehow be a mistake or, if they were in an accident, that they somehow survived it, but the confirmation that it was true came in less than a 48 hour wait, one which seemed an eternity to those who still held out hope.

Shannon Turner Glover, 47, Taylor County, KY (d. 21 Jul 2016)

Shannon was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky, the daughter of Evelyn Turner. She was a graduate of Campbellsville High School and had worked at both Fruit of the Loom and Campbellsville Apparel and in her spare time enjoyed reading. She was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Truth Tabernacle.

Home invader allegedly steals Accord, attempts suicide later

Adair County Sheriff's Office arrests 29 year old Campbellsville, KY man, who allegedly invaded a home in the Holmes Bend area, whose owner was awakened and was able to get the man out of his house; the home invader is reported to have stolen the homeowners Jeep, but was later apprehended by an off duty Green County deputy after the fugitive had slit his own throat with a box cutter. He was treated on the scene then airlifted to Louisville. The case remains under investigation
Note: An individual charged by police or in a warrant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding

On Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 7:25amCT, Deputy Aaron Rainwater responded to a residence on T. Rice Road, in Adair County, KY, where it was reported that a male had entered the residence while the owner was in bed.

The owner was awakened by the sound of the intruder, who was later identified as 29 year old Simon Kirkland of Campbellsville, KY.

Jerry Estes, 63, Green County, KY (1953-2016)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was retired from Nally and Gibson. He was a native of Green County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was a member of a large, highly regarded family, the son of the late Adolphus & Znnnie Burton Estes and the widower of Wanda Akin Estes. He leaves 11 direct living descendants. His family ties were many in Taylor, Adair, and Green Counties.

Vickie A Schultz, 63, formerly of Columbia, KY (d. 16 Jul 2016)

She was the mother of Christine Ussery of Columbia, KY and has many famkly members in the Columbia and Campbellsville area. She was born and raised in Ridgecrest, CA. She was a graduate of Burroughs High School and a student of Cerro Coso Community College. She spent many years working as an engineering technician for Comarco Engineering, Inc. in town as well as at Michelson Lab at China Lake NAWS. She lived in Reno, Nevada and Columbia, KY for a short time, but moved back to the desert when she retired.

Vickie A. Schultz, 63, of Inyokern, California passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital.

No services will be held per her request. Cremation has been chosen by the family. All arrangements have been taken care of by Holland and Lyons Mortuary in Ridgecrest, California. A celebration of her life will be planned at a later date.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The Center for International Education, Louisville Education Center and the School of Business and Economics at Campbellsville University hosted 20 undergraduate students from Guru Nanak Institutions (GNI) Hyderabad, India, Monday, July 18 through Wednesday, July 20.

GNI is a Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) institution, that has 11 education centers spread across Hyderabad, Nagpur and Roorkee. The Hyderabad GNI has 11,000 students enrolled in various programs of studies including Engineering and Technology, Pharmacy, Business Management, Computer Applications and Dental Science.

Could old Game of Columbia have value, help pay the bills?

Mrs. Burton was told there were only 500 of the games made and sold in the 1970s. Their board game is still in its original cellophane cover. They are wondering if the game now has special collector value.

Irene Foster Burton of Columbia lost her husband J.C. Burton five months ago and now she finds herself struggling to keep things going without him and the income from his garage business in Oak Grove, near Sano.

Part of her grieving and loss includes the burden of looking at things she can possibly sell to help pay the bills, and that process lead her to rediscover a keepsake that she says J.C. had always told her never to sell because it might have collector value someday.

Philip Callison, Taylor Co., KY (d. 21 Jul 2016)

He was a native of Adair County, KY, the son of the late Eugene Paul and Frances Cheatham Callison, and a member of a highly regarded South Central Kentucky family. His wife, Polly Ann Price Callison, survives. He leaves 11 direct living descendants. He was former co-owner of Callison's Dairy Queen where he worked many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church as well as having been a member of the National Guard, Cook Mountain Hunt Club, and Portland Hunt Club. Mr. Callison was an outdoorsman and could often be found enjoying his hobby of hunting.

The route for the funeral procession for Anthony & Tammy Reece has been learned: The procession will leave the Adair County Middle School from Indian Drive north on Greensburg Street, turn northeast (right) onto the Adair County Veterans Memorial Bypass, then north on Campbellsville Road to Coburg, KY, then circle through the Reeces Dealership back to Campbellsville Road, then turn left onto Old Cane Valley Road past Kellyville Community Church, then south to Cane Valley Cemetery Road, and left to the cemetery. The funeral is at 10amCT at Adair County Middle School, 322 Gen. John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY. A unusually large attendance is expected.

We would like to thank everyone for all the time, donations, and the open hearts that have came in and gave our fur babies a second chance at life. We have adopted out 27 dogs in the past week. We are now down to 45 dogs, and 26 kittens. Thanks to everyone for all the help it is greatly appreciated.
