Jon Halsey: Questions method of naming KSP Commissioner Comments re article 80181 Next Steps In Selection Process for KSP Commissioner By Jon Halsey Personal commentary I'm aware that the position of State Police Commissioner is part of the political "spoils system" in many States. While I can come up with a long list of why this is a problem, I can't think of any benefits to be derived from having the State Police so closely tied to the Governor's office and to politics in general. Admittedly I am biased as a result of my experience in Southern Alabama in the early 1960's and later, while living in Tennessee, with the scandals involving the Blanton Administration and the State Police. Can anyone in CM land offer some positives provided by the current system? I really am curious. - Jon Halsey 2016-01-17 06:27:23 | Comments | Printable version

Tom Chaney: Night Rider: Idealism's Coil Of Writers And Their Books: Night Rider: Idealism's Coil. Tom says Percy Munn is one of a long line of Warren characters whose idealism is their undoing. The coils of that idealism become entangled in the press of the crowd. This column first appeared 28 August 2005.
