Tom Chaney: What Might Have Been Of Writers And Their Books: What Might Have Been Tom discusses the differences between movies and novels and comments on Brokeback Mountain and the Oscars. This column first appeared 12 March 2006. The next earlier Tom Chaney column: Manhunt! By Tom Chaney What Might Have Been Brokeback Mountain and the Oscars I am always leery of a movie based on a piece of fiction. A well-written novel or short story can have such complexities of plot and character that the film maker's choices rarely ever reflect what I would have chosen, so I am easily disappointed. The vocabulary of film is not the vocabulary of the novel. A lengthy description of character or relationship in a novel may be communicated by a shot of an actor's head, a single tear, or the hint of a smile. Pinewood Shopping Center not in Holladay Place, not in City Comments re article 79756 Pinewood Shopping Center coming to Victoria Pike writes: Inquiring minds want to know exactly where in Holladay Place The Pinewood Shopping Center will be located. Is it adjoining the Walmart property or where? Heavy earth moving equipment appears to be located on the other side of Burkesville Road as of today. I am sure it is there for a purpose. Do tell, since you have piqued our curiosity. As Greater Bliss bureau chief, I feel it my duty to get to the bottom of this mystery. Miss Victoria, CEO at Miss Victoria's Pampered Angus Ranch - Victoria PikeMiss Victoria - We misunderstood in two interviews the exact location of the center. It is not only not in Holladay Place, it is also not within the city limits of Columbia. This means it is not subject to City of Columbia property, payroll, and insurance taxes, but will have CAUD water and sewer available and, maybe, city gas. We haven't been able to find that out in the middle of the night, though the exact location was confirmed with Mike Stephens during the day, Saturday. Pinewood Shopping Center is on property purchased from Richard Walker. 2015-12-27 00:21:08 | Comments | Printable version
