Remembering David Clift: He was born at Baute Infirmary, Lebanon, KY Comments about: - David Lee Clift, 72, Columbia, KY native (1943-2015) JIM writes: The Clifts resided in Columbia, but David was born in Marion County, as evidenced by his birth certificate and by a brief announcement in the June 9, 1943 News: "Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Clift announce the arrival of a son, David Clift, on Sunday, June 6, at the Baute Infirmary, Lebanon. The young man is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Grissom. Thanks, Jim, for the information David's father, Charlie Clift, worked with his father-in-law, M.L. Grissom, in the funeral home. Charlie Clift was a basketball coach at Lindsey Wilson. The Clifts were very popular in Columbia. David Clift's grandmother, Rosa Grissom, doted on a little neighbor boy and was a inspiration for him to go into the only field of service he ever really considered, being a funeral director at Grissom's. The Clift family moved to Dyersburg, TN in 1950, when David Clift was only seven; what followed for him was a distinguished academic program and a very successful career and life. The late Grover Gilpin peppered his conversations with fond memories of the Clifts right up to his final years. - EW 2015-12-08 06:23:02 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
