PAC changes course: Going for countywide wet-dry

Group has enough signers for a Citywide vote. Will need only 1,039 qualified signatures for countywide vote

By Shannon Sexton, for PAC, Progress in Adair County
Comments and opinions those of the organization, PAC

PAC - Progress in Adair County is a movement of the people, by the people and for the people. We are comprised of citizens just like you. We are not politicians, elected or appointed. Our mission is to do what is best for all Adair Countians.

In an effort to improve our economic development in Adair County, PAC recently set out to bring to vote the sale of alcoholic beverages in the CITY of Columbia, KY. Due to interest of the residents countywide, we are compelled to expand the issue and petition countywide.

Although we have far more signatures than required for a city petition, in good conscious, we cannot continue to move forward based on doing the "people's will" unless ALL the people of this county benefit. It is after much reflection, discussion and citizen input that we've chosen to set aside the city petition and focus our efforts on a countywide petition and election.

Our CJE Michael Stephens is a vocal supporter of PAC and our mission. During his campaign, Judge Stephens promised no new taxes without industry and growth. Judge Stephens supports giving every resident of Adair County the opportunity to have their voices heard and benefit from the sale of alcoholic beverages. We want the people of Adair County to understand that Judge Stephens has worked tirelessly to help ensure everyone will benefit from alcohol sales, not just a few.

Undoubtedly, expanding our efforts countywide will bring increased work and effort on the part of PAC and the volunteers that assist us daily. If you signed the city petition previously, your signature will not be valid for the expanded countywide petition. You will need to sign again. We apologize for the inconvenience, however we feel it is our duty at PAC to be honest, forthcoming, and do what is right for ALL of Adair County.

Any registered ADAIR COUNTY voter may sign the countywide petition at PAC headquarters. We are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30am-12:30pm and again from 4:00pm-6:00pmCT. We are also open Saturday's from 8:00am-12:00 noon. We will be adding additional hours in the coming days if needed. You may also reach us via phone, email, or social media. A countywide petition will require 1039 valid signatures.

We understand that many of you may have questions regarding our change of direction. Know that we are working hard for you, the citizens of this county. The easy way is not always the right way. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us. If you would like to donate to PAC or volunteer in any capacity, we would love to hear from you.

Thank you,
