Kentucky Color: Yellow Rose

Yellow Rose

As a mid-November sun
Washes warmly o're my soul,
My heart is flooded by,
Simple and moving beauty
In a single,
Juvenile,
Yellow Rose.

I'm oft times moved by,
Shallow, meaningless things.
But not today I say,
For beauty can never,
Meaningless
And
Shallow be.

ACHS Tribe 39. Caldwell County 61

By Cathy Luttrell

Adair fought to the end and put up a great fight but were defeated by Caldwell County 61-39, tonight, Friday, November 13, 2015, in the second round of the State Playoffs.

Adair County reached the 2nd game in 2014, with many of the same players as this year, these teams are the only ones to win the first game of playoffs. Was hoping to be the first team ever to win 2nd game but not tonight, but I couldn't be prouder, considering the record setting year we've just seen! - CATHY LUTTRELL

LWC Veterans Appreciation Luncheon

Lindsey Wilson College Veterans Appreciation Luncheon honors veterans 'Who were asked to do a job'

By Duane Bonifer

For Michael Kearns, Veterans Day is an opportunity to not only thank those who served in the U.S. military but also those who supported the nation's military personnel -- the "wives and guys."

Kearns recalled that his wife, Karen, was a constant source of support for him throughout his distinguished career in the Air Force, which included flying 100 combat missions over Vietnam.

Kearns told more than 170 guests Thursday at Lindsey Wilson College's 13th-annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon that, like most veterans, he moved around the world several times during his military career.

"But we always had someone to come home to -- someone who kept us straight when it kind of got crazy out there," he said at the luncheon's keynote talk at Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center. "You never hear much about that. How they did it, I don't know.

"So my hats off to the wives and the guys that were there for them when we came back, regardless of what shape we were in, how our mind was. They were always there, and they stood up for us. ... We owe our wives, and girlfriends at the time, a debt that will almost be impossible to repay."

KSP warns motorists of increased deer activities

November is peak month for deer collisions

By Kendra Wilson, Public Affairs Officer
Kentucky State Police, Frankfort, KY

FRANKFORT, KY -- The Kentucky State Police is urging all motorists to be aware of the increased dangers posed by deer wandering onto roadways during November and December.

"Two factors combine to boost the chances that motorists may encounter these animals during this time of the year: mating season and hunting season" says KSP Sgt. Michael Webb. "This results in increased movement that presents hazards to deer, vehicles and drivers."

Nationally, about 1.6 million vehicle-deer collisions occur each year, resulting in about 150 deaths and $3.6 billion in damage. The national average cost-per-claim is $4,135.

So that you know that I know that you know...

Breakfast conversation at our house this morning centered around Edmonton, Metcalfe County, schools, the changes in the buildings and memories of the teachers.

One favorite was a regular quote by Mr. James Ennis. Mom remembered him coming to her class and beginning with, "so that you know that I know that you know that I KNOW that you know..." and she said the students always knew it was test time. She hopes to find a photo of him if any readers have one handy. And we are still searching for any drawings or pictures of the Sulphur Well School across from the Methodist Church. -- Linda Waggener

Three units from Adair County Fire Department and 20 personnel were on the scene, according to Assistant Fire Chief Chris Bragg, who was in charge of the ACFD. Two units from Campbellsville arrived at the same time.
