Mr. James Odean Warf, 89, Green County, KY (1926-2015)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Russell Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Odeen was the guitar player and Tenor singer in the "Christian Heirs Quartet". He owned and operated a small country grocery store in Donansburg and at McKinney Corner for several years. He also worked at Walmart in New Iberia, Louisiana doing what he loved to do: tending to vegetables and flowers in the garden center and sharing his wealth of knowledge about gardening with everyone. He also made many new friends that would come visit with him during Cow Days in Greensburg every September.

Mr. James Odeen Warf of St. Martinville, Louisiana, a native of Greensburg, Kentucky d passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2015 at his home in St. Martinville, Louisiana.

The funeral services for Mr. James Odeen Warf will be conducted at 1pmCT, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Warf Cemetery. Bro. Carlos Compton and Bro. Curtis Slinker will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 3pmCT until 8pmCT, Friday, November 14 2015 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Saturday until time of the funeral service.

Mr. James Odean Warf, 89, Green County, KY (1926-2015)


Mr. James Odeen Warf of St. Martinville, Louisiana, a native of Greensburg, Green County, Kentucky, was the son of the late William Caffery Warf and Nellie Rene Perkins Warf. He was born September 8, 1926, and passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2015 at his home in St. Martinville, Louisiana, at the age of 89 years, two months and one day of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Russell Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Odeen was the guitar player and Tenor singer in the "Christian Heirs Quartet". He owned and operated a small country grocery store in Donansburg and at McKinney Corner for several years. He also worked at Walmart in New Iberia, Louisiana doing what he loved to do: tending to vegetables and flowers in the garden center and sharing his wealth of knowledge about gardening with everyone. He also made many new friends that would come visit with him during Cow Days in Greensburg every September.

Mr. Warf is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dora Maude Bryant Warf of Louisiana, having united in marriage on July 9, 1949.

Other survivors include:
  • A son: James Noel Warf of Louisiana

  • Two daughters and sons-in-law: Wanda Elaine Landry and Gerald Landry, and Leonia Dorene Hunt and Delbert Hunt all of Louisiana

  • Three grandchildren: William Bradford Warf and his wife, Laurie, Martina Carol Martin and her husband, Brady, Amanda Dorette Harden all of Louisiana

  • Seven great-grandchildren

  • One great-great-grandson

  • A sister: Esther Wiley of Florida

  • and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Hospice of Acadiana, which can be made at the funeral home.
