Bryan Blair: On economic impact, value of a County Fair Compares the cost of visit to a night of entertainment at a fair, with food, versus a movie and dinner and finds the fair a better buy. He urges community to "remember what the Fair has meant to Adair County for generations and step up to the plate to help when the time comes to keep the Adair County Fair alive for generations to come." Click on headline for full commentary By Bryan Blair Personal commentary It would certainly be a sad thing to see a long standing tradition like the Adair County Fair ever come to an end. It would seem from the statements made in this article that there are some very narrow views as to what role county fairs play in a local economy. While it is certainly true that Fairs have changed and evolved over the years, they are important for several reasons, chief among them providing a showcase for youth, agriculture and community along with providing some of the most affordable entertainment in a community in a given year. Gov. Beshear's statement on General Fund revenue growth October 2015 receipts running 6.1% ahead of year ago FRANKFORT, KY (Tue 10 Nov 2015) - "With this being the last revenue report before I leave office, I'm thrilled October's General Fund receipts grew 6.1 percent compared to this time last year. Even more compelling is the 4.9 percent growth for the first four months of the fiscal year. Revenue growth is being led by individual income and sales taxes, indicating that salaries and jobs are on the rise and consumer confidence is high. It also shows that our strategic vision to attract economic development, improve health, ensure strong fiscal management of the state's budget, and collaborate among the public and private sectors across geographic boundaries the last 8 years was the right path for Kentucky. Our economy continues to improve. I'm hopeful that lawmakers and our emerging leaders will continue this momentum." - GOV. STEVE BESHEAR 2015-11-11 12:22:03 | Comments | Printable version

Sen. Max Wise: A country worth fighting for A message for Veterans Day 2015 By KY Senator Max Wise, KY-16 Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties. As our country was founded on the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, many have fought and died so that Americans can continue to live in freedom. During America's 239 year-history, we have only been at peace for 21 nonconsecutive years. While 222 years of fighting is staggering, it shows that we stand as a country worth fighting for. World War I was known as "The Great War" and cost the lives of many. As the war ended in 1918, November 11th signified the end of "the war to end all wars." Today, we remember that day as Veterans Day. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2015-11-11 11:21:20 | Comments | Printable version
Bam Carney sends Veterans Day message "This Veterans Day, give thanks to those who fought to protect our freedoms" By KY State Representative John BAM Carney, KY 51, Adair & Taylor Counties FRANKFORT, KY - "In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."- MARK TWAIN. As each of us rise each day to go to work or school, or on Sunday when we gather our family and worship in our church, I wonder if we think about what those simple freedoms we enjoy like being able to major in whatever career we chose, or the freedom to worship our Lord, what costs were paid for those freedoms. (Ad) Finder would like to get lost box of new shoes to owner Good Morning Ed, On Monday afternoon (10 Nov 2015) my dad saw an object fall from the trunk of a dark colored car as it turned from High Street onto Greensburg Street and went toward the Public Square. He stopped to pick it up and it was a shoe box with a brand new pair of tennis shoes inside. He would like to get them back to the owner, as they are probably needed by someone. Could you share on CM that if someone lost their new shoes they could call 270-378-2274 and describe them to my parents and they would gladly meet them in town to return their shoes? Thank you.
