Says Alan Reed has brought real change to Adair County

He's made us proud to be a part of this community. 'Please do reconsider,' he writes to Adair County Board of Education members who didn't affirm the great leadership Alan W. Reed has shown

Personal commentary

I am terribly disturbed by the lack of support for Alan Reed by the school board. Mr. Reed has done more to bring real change to Adair County, to improve the educational opportunities for our children, bring positive state-wide attention to our community and encourage new businesses to locate here than all of the kings’ horses and all the kings’ men and all of their committees combined.

Joyce Coomer: On renewing, or not, Alan Reed's contract

Joyce Coomer writes
I have two possible solutions to the school superintend quandary . . .

From what I have been told through the years, materials and services for the school districts in the State of Kentucky must have bids submitted before purchases are made. Why not do this with the school superintendents? They can be required to pass a qualification test before submitting their salary requirements.

Or . . . why not have the superintendent position be up for public election as are the sheriff, judge, jailer and other offices? In this situation also, the candidates would be required to pass a certification test before putting their names on the ballot, the way PVA candidates must do.

Failure to renew A.W. Reed contract a gross error in judgment

By Roger D Smith DMD
Personal Commentary

believe that we have good and decent members on the Adair County School Board.

However, I fail to see the gain in the vote to not allow Allen Reed to continue with the gains and strides made over the last three years to improve the physical grounds and the advanced educational programs for the students.

I do believe, as do many others, that this was a gross error in judgment. In all fairness, either in a public forum or by written response, I invite those members to explain their votes.

As elected officials, I think that this is their responsibility to the community that they SERVE. - Roger D Smith DMD

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Mike Harris and Floyd Burton for your wise vote to renew Mr. Reed's contract.

I have no children in our school system, but I have seen a shabby looking school campus turned into something to be proud of and I know this reflects on learning - which is what schools are about. I have seen new opportunities for students.

Trudy Crabb writes:
What is our school board thinking? There has been more accomplished under Alan Reed\'s direction than any other time that I can remember. Letter: Putting politics before students

Kenny Lee writes:
The school board that voted against Alan Reed: when they come up for re-election to the school board, voters listen up, vote all of them that voted to not renew his contract. vote them out of office. Let the people speak about board members that are for the kids in adair county. it was all political. the 3 board members should then have a recall on the board members right now, and get rid of them. They are putting politics above the kids. --Kenny Lee

Far to often we accept decisions made by the minority and fail to speak up. I refrain from commenting on items of a petty political nature but on the subject of education and the future of our youth and our community I must voice my great concern.

I challenge the Adair County School Board to examine the status of our local system three years ago and compare it to where we are today.

Poetry by Robert Stone: Let the fisted heart

Let the fisted heart
- a sonnet reflecting on a play, an event, and a relationship
Too many fictions shadow facts too few.
excuses let the fisted heart hold sway,
we -- present -- only are the acts we do,
not nows are but debris to cart away.

Too much despair is shading hope too small,
regrets singe greetings for tomorrows bleak,
we -- past - are troubled could not cope at all,
those nows are but sad calls to sorrow seek.

Still unrequited love stalks innocent,
desire denied yet seethes in rattling cage,
we - future - are but dregs when win is spent,
all nows are but response to battling rage.

The thing that saves the flesh may sour the soul
and what enlivens soul on flesh take toll.
- by Robert Stone, 17 September 2015, who writes, "I have undertaken to do the impossible, write a sonnet that reflects on the play 'Hearts Like Fists,' on the implications of 9/11, and on my feelings about 'my feelings about' a relationship, along with double rhyming, alliteration, and too much parallel structure.

Writer says Superintendent Reed is one of best in Superintendents Adair ever had, maybe the best in State.

I think the people in Knifley, Egypt, Pellyton, Holmes Bend, Milltown, Gradyville, Glens Fork, Nelson Ridge, and Sparksville, need to look at their Board Members and see how they voted.

Supt. Alan Reed has to be one of the best Superintendents Adair Co. Schools ever had and might be the best in the State.
