Comments on aerial photo of Campbellsville at night

Rollin Knifley writes:
This picture is beautiful, but at the same time a bit spooky. Not shown in the photo is the Campbellsville/Taylor County Airport (less than 3 miles), or the Taylor County Regional Hospital Helipad (less than a mile). Operating an aircraft, whether manned or unmanned, near an active airport or helipad, especially at sunset requires an increased level of situational awareness. It seems now, more than ever. Fly Safe! --Rollin Knifley

KY Afield Outdoors: Carolina rig for post-spawn bass

By Lee McClellan

Frankfort, Ky. - The calendar said June 1, but the cold northeast wind, chilly rain and leaden skies seemed more like a bad day on the opening weekend of the April Keeneland meet. June finally arrived in Kentucky this week and water temperatures in lakes across the state inched their way up toward the high 70s.

"Black bass are in post spawn now," said Jeff Ross, assistant director of fisheries for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. "They should be completely done with spawning."

After undergoing the rigors of reproduction, black bass move offshore. "As water temperature rises, they move out on the drops," Ross said. "You can still catch big fish shallow, but you have a much better chance out deeper. You can also avoid the bank beating anglers."

Frances Salyers: Remembering Luey Luttrell

Jesus will be getting a good one

Frances Salyers writes:
Well, I lost my Brother-in-law, Luey Dean Luttrell, last night. As much as I love him and will miss him, I am proud for him. He has suffered so long. He can finally rest in heaven now. He is where we are trying to get. Jesus will be getting a good one.

I ask that all my friends and people I don't know, pray for us. He has worked like a dog all his life, and never asked for anything. Never complained. His lungs were so bad, he couldn't breathe but he drudged on each and everyday until he got to the point he could not work or walk anymore. He has not been out of the bed since November. So I thank everyone in advance for your prayers for our family. God bless you all - Frances Salyers

Senator Max Wise: Courage and Heroism

State Senator Max Wise: The terms are often sensationalized, but real meaning of the terms and qualities of a true hero may be seen in the lives of 'people have acted heroically and courageously by facing insurmountable odds without fear, sacrificing safety and comfort to help others, and leading through serving the less fortunate.' he says, and names a few - Lauren Hill, Arlie (Pooh) Hill, and Mrs. Betty Turner Campbell, in his examples.

By State Senator Max Wise, (R-Campbellsville)
16th District: Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties

FRANKFORT, KY (June 10, 2015) – What does courage and heroism mean to you? I’ve been thinking about this lately. It seems in this day and age, these terms can be hijacked to push certain agendas or sensationalize news items. It seems we have gotten away from the real meaning of what is to live with courage, and what qualities make up a true hero.
