Writer relates danger for inmates working on highway

Also urges extra care around entrance to daycare on Fairground Street

Pam Kermeen writes:
Two mornings this week while driving from Columbia to Jamestown - into the sun, I encountered the inmates working on both sides of the highway. All I could see in the distance was a small glimmer of the yellow truck light flashing because of the sun.M

I did not see the men until they were beside my vehicle as I passed. I don't think having them out that early is safe. One man was in a grey sweatshirt with the hood up on his head. With the backdrop of the hill on both sides of the road it was very difficult to see him, especially.

Another difficult/dangerous spot is when parents are dropping off their child/children at the daycare below the fairgrounds. You make a left turn off of 55 onto Fairground Street, again driving into the sun, and all of the sudden the car in front of you stops to turn left into the daycare parking lot. --Pam Kermeen

Mayor Hardwick: Paperwork in for him to be Mayor by Tue

Mayor Hardwick issues statement on the cost of the lawsuit, as well

Mayor Curtis Hardwick in attendance at the Columbia/Adair County Economic Development Authority said, in introductory remarks, he expects to be Mayor by Tuesday - April 28, 2015.

After the meeting, Hardwick issued the following statement:
"I want the people of Columbia AND Adair County, to know that my legal efforts have not cost the city or county any money. I did not file a lawsuit. All I've done is hire my own lawyer, H.K. Cooper and I've paid legal fees myself."

"The appeal filed by the Adair County Board of Elections was filed because Judge Judy Vance, in her ruling, mentioned fraud by the Board of Elections in two places.

"The appeal voted for on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, has nothing to do with my race. It only has to do with clearing the record on the fraud issue.

I'm sorry all this happened. But I'm fighting to keep my job." - CURTIS HARDWICK

John Campbell: Comments on inmates working on right-of-ways

Urges motorists to exercise great care during clean up season

By John Campbell
Personal Commentary

I noticed that there are county supervised litter pick up crews working the ditch lines and right of ways in the area. I am appreciative of this service but I do have a quandary.

These are inmates to the best of my understanding and they will volunteer for this work just to get outside of the walls of incarceration.
