Mr. Robbin Cecil Colvin, Taylor County, KY (1958-2014)

Mr. Colvin was employed as a supervisor at the Jamestown Fruit of the Loom factory. Mr. Colvin had professed faith in Christ and was a member of Lifegate Baptist Church in Campbellsville, KY. His wife, Mona (Bradshaw) Colvin, survives. He leaves 2 direct living descendants

Norway awards medal to Adair WWII Veteran Simpson Reliford

On June 6, 2014, Adair County native Simpson Reliford was honored with an award from the Norwegian government for his efforts in helping their country during World War II.

The award was presented by three officers from the NATO Alled Command Tranformation (ACT), VA which sent three officers, one each from of the Norwegian Army, Navy and Air Force to present the medal: Captain Yngve Skoglund, Norwegian Navy; Lt. Colonel Tom Schroder, and Norwegian Army Sergeant Therese Skalbones, Norwegian Air Force

Simpson was a member of the 99th Battalion. His was the last of the 23 awards which have been presented to members of that battalion.

This day was also special because it commemorated the 70th anniversary of D-Day. About 40 neighbors, dignitaries and friends attended Simpson’s special celebration which was held at the Red Barn Event Rental on Wilson Road in Adair County. - Chris Wilson, the writer, is owner of Wilson Golden Rule Realty and the Red Barn Event Center in Columbia, KY

Brotzman was on campus Saturday morning, June 7, 2014, for an EDGE day, two days before she graduated from Eastern High School in Middletown, KY. And Brotzman could hardly wait to begin college.

KSP Post 15 Activity for May, 2014

Post 15 had 3 fatalities for month; total year to date 12, compared to only 7 in previous year

COLUMBIA, KY - During the month of May 2014, there were 16 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

FRANKFORT, KY With California Chrome set to chase history in the Belmont Stakes this coming weekend, the stream smallmouth fishing season is in full bloom.

A late spring following a brutally cold winter caused some hit and miss stream smallmouth fishing this past spring. With the warm winds of June now here, stream smallmouth are settling into their summer patterns with water temperatures stabilizing in the mid 70s.

KSP charges woman with crimes related to child sexual abuse

Hancock County Case: Woman arrested, lodged in Breckenridge County Jail

LEWISPORT, KY - A Hancock County woman was arrested on charges related to child sexual abuse on June 4, 2014, after Kentucky State Police served a search warrant at her home.

Rebecca Gibbs, 24, is charged with two counts of sodomy 1st and 1 count of fugitive from another state. She was lodged in the Breckenridge County Jail.

Margaret Blakeman, Green County, KY (1940-2014)

She was a member of a highly regarded Green County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Victor & Frances Montgomery Henderson. She leaves 10 direct living descendants. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church. She retired from the Green County School System after teaching 27 years

Funeral services will be at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, 209 W Court Street, Greensburg, KY, at 11amCT, Tuesday, June 10, 2014, with Rev. Blake Jessie the officiating clergy. Visitation will be 9am-11amCT, Tuesday. Interment will be in Greensburg Cemetery, N Main Street, Greensburg, KY.

KY 337 closed Tuesday, June 10, 2014, in Taylor County

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (June 9, 2014) – Maintenance Crews will replace a culvert pipe along KY 337 (Bradfordsville Road) near Mannsville in Taylor County on Tuesday (June 10th) requiring closure of the road.

Closure will be between addresses 946 and 1085. Residence addresses up to 946 can access KY 337 from KY 70. Residence addresses beyond 1085 must use an alternate route.

COLUMBIA, KY- The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball program added five student-athletes for the upcoming 2014-15 season, head coach John B. Wethington announced on Monday, June 9, 2014.

"This group is really going to mix well with the student-athletes that saw a lot of minutes this past year," Wethington said. "We are adding two freshmen, two sophomores and a junior to an already relatively young team."

A BOIL WATER ADVISORY is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District for customers on
Hwy 704 starting at 2432 Fairplay Road to 9095 Fairplay Road and all side roads in between, Hwy 768 starting at Coomer’s Grocery to 2433 Glensfork Road and all side roads in between, Hwy 768 on Sparksville Road to 3644 Sparksville road and all side roads in between.
The advisory has been issued due to main line leak. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure.
Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.
This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. For more information concerning the Boil Water Advisory, contact Lennon Stone at Columbia Adair Utilities District, 270-384-2181.

Latest story: Traffic: Construction will affect Jamestown, Burkesville STs. which said that a Boil Water Advisory would be issued, but as of 6:21amCT, Monday morning, June 9, 2014, an advisory has not been received.

We're expecting word at any moment about the water situation in Downtown Columbia and will post as quickly as possible when received. Some have had water temporarily off, then came back on and was running clear. We also have a report of the water running but muddy in Downtown. - CM

Mr. Norman Gene (Sonny) McAllister, Taylor Co., KY (1935-2014)

He was a native of West Virginia and a resident of Campbellsville, KY at the time of his death. His wife, Mrs. Janet Wolfe McAllister, survives. He leaves 28 direct living descendants. As a young man, Mr. McAllister answered the call to duty and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a civil servant of the highest example, proven by his three retirements from federal, state, and city municipalities. Mr. McAllister was a Mason and an intellect. He loved playing chess, cards, and pool. He held bowling trophies, and was rarely seen without a quality book close at hand. Above all that, though, he cherished his family most.

Driver airlifted from scene of accident, Saloma RD, Taylor Co., KY

From Taylor County Sheriff's Office, Campbellsville, KY.

The driver of a 2008 Ford Escape, was airlifted by Air Evac to University of Louisville Hospital, following an accident at around 4:50pmET, Sunday, June 8, 2014.

Alice Wolf, age 68, of Taylor County, was traveling north on Saloma Road when her vehicle ran off the right side of the road, taveled down the ditch line, ran through a fence, and struck a tree.
