City Council special called meeting Thursday, April 24, 2014

The City of Columbia will hold a special called meeting on Thursday April 24, 2014 at 12pm noon CT in City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Items on the agenda are as follows:
1st Reading of Ordinance No. 220.159 an Ordinance Amending the City of Columbia Annual Budget for the Fiscal Year 07/01/13 through 06/30/14, by Estimating Revenues and Resources and

Appropriating Funds for the operations of City Government. No action will be taken.
The meeting is open to the public.

Nine year old Dawson Fisher, seated at left by his grandfather, was surrounded by family and friends on hand Monday evening at Westlake Regional Hospital to help celebrate his homecoming. Dawson's mother Tina, his grandmothers Joyce Loy and Donna Ford, his grandfather Jerry Ford, his little sister Hailey and others stayed close around him to see that he was alright with the crowd of folks there to celebrate his life. His family requested to make their first stop at Westlake where they say the difference was made by emergency personnel in his battle for life after the December 28 fire.

A copy of the Wet/Dry petition now being circulated in Adair County, KY, by Paul Carter, 105 Richards Lane, Columbia, KY, Phone 270-384-1650.

The petition reads:
"We, the undersigned registered voters hereby petition for an election on the following question: Are you in favor of the sale of alchoholic beverages in Adair County, Kentucky? following all guidelines of KRS242.20?
Under the heading, "PETITION IN FAVOR OF WET/DRY VOTE - Adair County, KY, the copy has 17 lines with spaces for name, address, D.O.B. / SSN, Date, and signature.

According to County Court Clerk Joyce Rodgers, a petition would have to almost 1800 verified signatures of registered Adair County voters in order for a special Wet-Dry Election to be held. Mr. Carter said that he hopes to have petition completed and verified in time for a summer 2014 election.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (April 22, 2014) – Governor Steve Beshear today announced Frost-Arnett Company plans to grow its operations in Taylor County.

Frost-Arnett, an accounts receivable management company specializing in office solutions for health care organizations, will create 70 new full-time jobs and invest $620,000 to expand its Campbellsville facility.

LWC R.V. Bennett honors program honors symposium schedule

Minutes before midnight on April 15th, and adjournment of the 2014 session, I breathed a sigh of relief as my Senate Bill 108 was finally passed by the House and enrolled. This legislation will terminate the parental rights of convicted rapists as to a child conceived by rape. It was the last bill passed by the General Assembly and delivered to the Governor before the session adjourned "sine die," meaning until the next session.

The Grand Opening - actually the fourth week of Farmer's Market on the Square is shaping up fast. The list of vendors promises to be the biggest yet, and produce is really beginning to come in. Saturday will be the first time for the Crafters' Court in the historic courthouse, with six vendors, crafters/booksellers, already booked. There will be entertainment by The Exie Boys, from Green County, KY, who will be playing Bluegrass Gospel at 10amCT. The Adair County Library's Miss Aleina will be reading "Pickin' Peas" by Margaret Reed McDonald. We're also announcing a drawing for a $50 FM2 gift certificate to be drawn - and much more. LWC Celebrates 10th Anniversary of U Center of the Mountains

After receiving an associate's degree from Hazard Community and Technical College, Erwin earned a bachelor of arts degree in human services and counseling from Lindsey Wilson, then she enrolled in LWC's graduate program in counseling and human development. And she did it all without leaving Perry County, KY.
