The Columbia Planning & Zoning Commission reviewed and approved, Monday, April 21, 2014, unanimously, the site development plans for a Bowling/Fun Center being constructed by Barney Burns at a site on Campbellsville Road next to the Dr. Eric Loy's Adair Family Medical Center, on the West Side of the 900 block of Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY.

Four of the five commissioners were present for the meeting, including Chairman Joseph Flowers and members Sue Stivers, Gayle Rogers, and Sam Rademacher. Members voted 4-0 to approve the plans after questions were answered about provisions for drainage. Mr. Burns told the panel that the drainage should be better for neighbors, particularly for Mr. Danny Downey's building where the Adair Band Bingo Hall is located at 55 Shady Lane.

Mr. Burns said that the target date for the opening of the center is August 1, 2014. He attended the meeting with his wife and his son, Brandon Burns, head bowling coach at Lindsey Wilson College, and James Garrison of JAGco Construction.

Garrison also spoke on the drainage, saying that run off would leave the devopment toward the ditch along Campbellsville Street in equally amounts from two drainage channels which would be lined with large stones to moderate the flow.

Construction will be starting shortly, he said, with the pad for the 10,000 square foot building being poured within the next few days. Kauffman Builders of Burkesville, KY.

The center will be home to the Lindsey Wilson College bowling team, which currently bowls at Phillips Lanes in Campbellsville, KY. Mr. Burns said there will be 10 bowling lanes, equipped with the newest style Brunswick pinsetters.

There will be a snack bar serving sandwiches, hotdogs, hamburgers, and chicken strips; a restaurant may be opened at a later date, Barney Burns said.

The center might be described as a smaller version of Ralphies in Glasgow, KY. There will also be arcade games and "Spin Zone" bumper cars, with electronic controls which let the battery powered vehicles with a novel "Chaos Mode," which sends a car hit in its "Spin Zone Target," on the front and back of the round vehicle, sending the bumper car into a spin while lights flash to let other drivers know who has been hit.

The building will be built on the Medical Center side of its lot. An access road to the parking lot will be built from Campbellsville Street, with landscaped, grassy areas on each side of the approach.
