Knifley Pipeline Explosion aftermath: Boil Water major impact

One Knifleyan, looking back on disaster, borrows wisdom from James Russell Lowell: It was enough to make a deacon swear

By Jon Halsey

We can't begin to express how much we appreciate the "breaking news" info you provide.

The Boil Water advisory for our area had a major impact.

With 7 (5 indoor and 2 indoor/outdoor) cats and 4 dogs, it's like living with 11 four year olds and having to boil water for drinking, cleaning, etc. is a major event.

Emily let loose a LOUD Alleluia when I told her the boil advisory had been lifted.

- Jon Halsey, Knifley, KY

As a side note - You haven't lived until you're in your 70's and have to evacuate 7 cats, 4 dogs and a panicked wife at 2:30 in the morning and all at one time in two vehicles! To quote the Romantic, James Russell Lowell: "It's most enough to make a deacon swear."

Your birds are waiting to be counted!

. . . since this Winter has been quite hard, scientists are predicting higher than average mortality rates in some bird species like the Eastern Bluebird. While bluebird numbers may be down slightly on my Melson Ridge farm, I still see several of these beautiful birds every day . . . - Wendy Butler Burt

By Wendy Butler Burt

The Great Backyard Bird Count is here again . It started today, Valentine's Day, and will go through Monday, February 17, 2014. And, with Adair County weather predicted to be sunny and relatively mild on Saturday and Sunday, take some time "for the birds." It's fun to count how many individuals of all the different species of birds you see - at your bird feeders, in your yard or overhead, and elsewhere.
