W.M. Feese, Jr. announces retirement as Adair PVA

To the voters and taxpayers of Adair County

It is with a heavy heart and mixed emotions that I express my intentions of retiring at the end of this present term of office that in my case ends in December. For 29 years I will have served the citizens of Adair County as your Property Valuation Administrator.

After much prayer and deliberation my wife Donna and I have decided the time is right for handing over the reins to our son Jeffrey who will serve the county well. He has the necessary experience and know how to continue the same friendly, courteous and professional service that we have strived to provide to the citizens of this great county. He has over 23 years of service in the office of property valuation both locally and in Frankfort having served as the supervisor of the western section of the state for the Department of Revenue which encompasses 40 counties for a number of years as well as serving as PVA in a number of counties when the PVA has retired or a vacancy existed until a PVA could be appointed or elected. He knows property tax inside and out and will be fair and reasonable in his duties here in Adair County.

Due to health concerns both in the family as well as friends, we feel the time is right for our retirement and we look forward to spending what time we have left on this earth with our grand and great-grand children. Again we sincerely thank and appreciate the many friendships and acquaintances that we have made these past 29 years and look forward to many more as we move on to the next chapter of our lives.

Thank you sincerely
W. M. Feese, Jr,
Adair County PVA

Sheriff Moss warns of phone scams making rounds

By Harrison Moss

We have had reports of several phone scams in Adair County. Please don't be a victim of these scams. Publishers Clearinghouse, GM, Chrysler, Ford, UPS or any other reputable company or corporation will NOT call and tell you that you have won a car and/or cash and ask for your personal information, such as debit/credit card or account numbers. Some scammers ask you to get a green dot moneypak card and give them the number on the card, or send them money for shipping. They are very convincing and use names familiar to the area they are calling. We have found that most of these scams are coming from Jamaica. If you have any question feel free to call the sheriffs office: 270-384-2776. Thank you, -Harrison Moss

Move to reduce advertising costs for cities asks suppot

OPINION
Republican sponsored SB Bill 101would reduce costs and improve transparency for cash strapped city governments. It does not shift public notice or "Legal Advertising" to broadcast, Tv, cable, or Internet Sites, just reduces a costly expense of local government. - CM.

Senate Bill 101, sponsored by Senator Chris McDaniel (R-Taylor Mill), would give local governments the option to post required advertisements on a website operated by a local government in lieu of a newspaper publication, so long as a onetime advertisement is published in an actual newspaper.

The online notice for most fiscal documents must be made available to the public for at least one year on the local government's website. To maintain transparency for those residents without Internet access, a phone number will be provided in the newspaper advertisement that will direct the public to the location where a printed copy of the advertised document or record may be obtained. The bill specifies requirements for advertisements published on the local government's website and in the newspaper. This is a KLC initiative.

Call to Action:

Significant opposition has formed from the newspaper industry and they are inundating the Kentucky Senate with phone calls. If Kentucky voters and cities truly want to implement these important cost-saving measures for their communities, Kentucky voters & city officials must call Senators and let them know that you wholeheartedly support SB 101. This bill could help reduce publication costs for your city. You can find your Senator in the Kentucky League of Cities Member Directory Look up your city by name and the contact information for legislators is at the bottom of each page. You can call 502-564-8100 to speak directly to your State Senator or to leave a message. The Kentucky Senate needs to hear from you on this important KLC legislative priority. Maury Lewis: Baby goats are so much fun

Maury Lewis writes:
Baby goats are so much fun. We use to have a small herd of milk goats in LA - Lower Alabama. We would take the females off of their mothers' and bottle feed them so they would get use to us handling them so we could milk them with ease when they freshened and we drank the milk and cooked with it.

I would go to the barn to let them out in the mornings, swing open the doors and they would start screaming. After they were fed I would open the back door to the barn that went to their pasture and say,"Come on, let's go to jumping school," and out they would bound. Sweet, sweet memories pressed between the pages of my mind. --Maury Lewis
