Clarise Helen Arnett, 100, Green Co., KY (1913-20130)

She was a native of Green County, KY, and a resident of Clark County, IN, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late William and Emma Robertson Houk, and the widow of James Arnett. She was a retired inspector for the old ICI Americas, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Charlestown, IN

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 12pmCT/1pmET, at the Grayson Funeral Home, 893 High Street, Charlestown, IN, with burial in the Barnes Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013, from 3pm to 8pm, and after 9am on Tuesday.

She was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of Hustonville, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Sherman and Carrie Sandusky Emerson and the widow of Noah Gibson. She was a housewife and a member of the McKinney Christian Church

Burial will follow in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be 5pm-8pmCT/6pm-9pmET, on Monday, December 30, 2013, at the funeral home.

Dr. Bobbie Jean Hall, 58, Taylor Co., KY (1955-2013)

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the University Of Louisville School of Medicine and had practiced as a pediatrician specializing in allergies and asthma. She was a native of Taylor County and a resident at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Rev. Gene Hall and Christine Deener Hall. Her husband, Donald Weeks, survives.

TOMPKINSVILLE, KY - 58-year-old Ricky Wyatt of Austin, KY, has been arrested and charged with Assault 1st Degree in connection with the shootings of 34-year-old Christopher Burgess and 49-year-old Rita Downing, both of Scottsville, KY.

Three taken to UK Burn Center after Sandusky ST vehicle fire

Air Evac was called to Westlake Regional but was grounded due to weather. All three victims transported by Adair EMS to UK burn center; juvenile later transferred to Cincinnati Shriner's Children's Hospital to a specialized burn unit where he is listed in critical condition. Columbia Adair County Fire Department, Adair County EMS, Adair SAR, and Columbia Police Department units at Sandusky Street site

At 6:37pmCT, Saturday, December 28, 2013, Adair County 911 received a call stating that a car inside of a garage at 408 Sandusky Street was on fire and three people were suffering burn injuries. Columbia Adair County Fire Department, Adair County EMS, Adair SAR, and CPD officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon officers arrival it was found that Jerry Ford of Columbia, Chris Karnes of Columbia, and a nine year old were in a shop adjacent to the residence working on a car.

Happy Tail. A Christmas Starrie

The search for a pet beagle was drawn out affair, but has a Happy Ending in store: The chosen beagle, Starrie - Christmas Starrie now, has just had a litter of pups. The client gets the pick of the litter, but in a few weeks, five more will be available for others to adopt. Peg Schaeffer says they are all so cute it would be wise to 'Place your order now.'

I often get phone calls from children who know that I have dogs for adoption. They're always full of questions and then end with "I'll have to ask my Mom". Most of the time I never hear from them again. This time it was different.

B-58 Crash at McKinney: Probable cause, instrument failure

The B-58 Bomber was a plane that was ahead of its time. It was the first super sonic bomber and designed in the late 1950s. They did not have the luxury of computer guidance systems like more modern planes of this type. The plane probably crashed because of instrument failure, or engine failure.

L.T. Bradshaw, Adair Co., KY (1928-2013)

He was a member of a highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. He was the son of the late Loral Talton and Ruth Scott Bradshaw. His wife, Marie Grider Bradshaw survives. He leaves two direct living descendants. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Air Force.

Adair Boys basketball finishes 4th at T J Sampson Classic

Next:The Indians will host Todd County Central Thursday night, January 2, 2014 at 7:45pmCT, in the first round of the Lindsey Wilson College Classic at John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian DR, Columbia, KY.

After an opening round win on Thursday night Adair County fell to Whitley County 52-49 on Friday night and then fell to Barren County 65-45 last night. Whitley County improved to 8-4 and Barren improved to 9-2. The Indians record is now 5-5 on the year.

The challenge arose from the great hue and cry heard in the land, "How on earth did they pick that name?" So far the response has been overwhelming. One reader said she noticed the column as she wrapped her garbage with it.
