Lost items at Christmas in the Courthouse

Pam Kermeen writes: I enjoyed visiting all the booths in the Courthouse this morning, but I did not have cash with me so I wrote checks. In doing so I believe that I left one of my purchases. It was a $10.00 primitive "We are blessed" wooden plaque with a black checkered ribbon on it. It is about 12" square. I also had two yellow coloring books from the Sugarfoot booth for my grandkids. I am sure that I set it down to write a check. I sure hope someone found it and will call me. Thanks! Contact: Pam Kermeen, 76 Richardson Road, Columbia, KY 42728, 606-706-3999 See all: Lost & Found

Query: Union Soldiers Disposition in Columbia, KY

re: /" Burrell Leonard Strange Sr., 9th Kentucky Calvary Company K, 1820 - 1863" Writer has found evidence that his great-great grandfather, a Union soldier from Anderson County, KY, died of disease in Columbia, KY, in 1863. He needs more information in order to obtain a military marker to go beside that of his great grandmother, who is buried in a small cemetery in Anderson County, KY.

By Ronald Coleman Strange

I am in need of any documentation stating the disposition of the remains of Union soldiers who died of disease in the town of Columbia, Ky. in 1863.

I'm looking for newspaper articles, town, state or federal government documents that discuss the disposition of their remains.

I understand from my research, so far, that a large number of soldiers' remains who died of disease in Columbia, who were not identified, were buried in mass unmarked graves.

Patty Jones and Adair County Primary remember Kody Pelly

Such a special young man. . . If everyone had the attitude toward and love for all people that Kody had the world would be a brighter place. - PATTY JONES
Comments about Remembering Kody Pelly: His big, big heart is forever within us

By Patty Jones

The staff of Adair County Primary joins with Adair Elementary in mourning the loss of such a special young man. Kody Pelly was a friend for life for anyone who ever met him.

It did not matter who you were or how he came to know you, he never forgot you. Kody began school at Col. Wm. Casey and everyone who was there knew him. I agree with so many.

If everyone had the attitude toward and love for all people that Kody had the world would be a brighter place. Our hearts go out to Kim and Bobby and all of Kody's family and friends. We all loved Kody and we all will miss him so much.

By Sandy Wilson
for the Adair County Elementary School (ACES) Family

(December 6, 2013) - We, at Adair County Elementary, like so many other Adair Countians tonight are heartbroken at the loss of our friend, Kody Pelly.

He volunteered at ACES every Wednesday in Mrs. Garmon's class. He was officially an ACES Assistant and he proudly wore his nametag!

Kody brightened our lives and made us better people. His smiles, his hugs, his stories, his laughter, his wonderful personality, and his big, big, heart will forever live within us.

Our thoughts, prayers and love are with the Pelly family and Kody's many, many friends. We are so thankful that his mom and dad, Kim and Joe, shared Kody with us at ACES.

A Christmas Memory: Role reversal brings best Christmas ever

Those Christmas Eve family drives to see the lights of town always meant a special visitor would have worked his magic before the family returned. Until that age came when she, the youngest of her sibs, lost faith in the Santa Claus. Fast forward 40 years, when a role reversal brought back memories of those early years and the best Christmas ever for her dad, and memories the author will forever treasure.

By Donna Rieder

My parents started a family Christmas tradition when my oldest sister was little, and continued it until I, the youngest of three kids, lost faith in the "Santa Claus."

Every Christmas Eve after dinner, we'd all pile into the car and drive around looking at the Christmas lights and decorations in the neighborhood. Dad always arranged for a neighbor to come over when we left, and put all our presents and toys under the tree, so that when we got home, Santa would have visited. We kids always ate dinner quickly and never fussed about getting the dishes done, because we knew as soon as we got home from our ride, we'd have a surprise awaiting us!
