Hi Ed. Saw this picture and wanted to tell you i have a persimmion tree in my backyard here in the big city and it draws so much wildlife on a daily basis. I have deer, coons, possums and also a huge groundhog - and I live in a subdivision. It is awesome to see those animals here in town and it always makes me think of Columbia fondly. My tree is huge and has been hit by lighting a few times, but every fall it is heavy with fruit. Will try to send you a picture of it soon. Thanks, Debbie Sinclair --Debbie Sinclair

Poetry by Lemia Laval: Undeserved

Undeserved
By Lemia Laval
Why? In this time of desperation...
Do silent pleas go unnoticed
Untouched by comforting caresses
While what is voiced is misunderstood
Lost in a cloud of nothingness
A vast chilly plateau
Void of kindness
Of love
Grace?

Why? Trapped in this system of things
Are actions serving no purpose
but to increase the emptiness
while what is worthy is discarded.
Waiting to be noticed,
A treasure cast aside:
Undeserved kindness
Pure love
Grace.

Veterans Day note: Thanks, Watson family veterans

By Mike Watson

Veterans Day 2013. Every veteran is appreciated for all services they have rendered to the greatest country. No man or woman wants to go to war, but to protect the sanctity of home and family it if often necessary. So many have gone to serve and never returned home again. Let us pray for peace. Let us give thanks to all who have sacrificed. Let us thank a veteran today.

Thank you Carl, Cameron, Hugh and William Watson, four brothers who served faithfully in World War II; and thank you to Larry Steve Watson, my eldest brother, who served in Vietnam. --Mike Watson

Letter: Sees More in Socks (the cat) Photo

' . . . a golden nugget of God's Grace

John Campbell writes:
A very cute picture of Socks (the cat) taken and shared with all to see. But I see something much deeper, I am very moved and inspired that some (the Coomers particularly here) still are of the few that have an open Bible for daily devotional meditations on the kitchen table. Thank you for this golden nugget of God's grace. - John Campbell

Veterans Day Poem - If I Had Wings

If I had wings...
Poem by Sarah Wilson
(Written with time of Iraq War in mind (Timeline) March 20, 2003 - August 18, 2010)
If I had wings
I'd fly to Iraq
Where soldiers would see them
And know they're coming back

I'd perch among the wounded
Keeping watch over their lives
As they fight tooth and nail
Against all odds to survive

I'd sing gently to the soldiers
Who in their nightmares remember
Their fallen brethren praying to God
That in this war, we will never surrender

I'd soar to the highest peak
And give a piercing cry
Refusing to give up
And leave in vain, all that have died

I'd rise above the battle fields
Above ash, ruins, and dead
Remembering the courageous generals
Who, of these soldiers led

But reality is?
I have no such wings
Yet to the soldiers
My heart still sings:

"May God be with you,
And keep you safe
Find hope in love
And courage in faith"
Sarah Wilson the poet, is a native of Breeding, KY and the 17 year old daughter of Steve and Susie Wilson.
