Victoria Pike: Goldenrod is ok, by itself; ragweed is not

Comments re article 62267 Joyce Coomer Never considered Goldenrod invasive

By Victoria Pike
Opposing viewpoint

The point I was trying to make is that you don't need to have a weed patch, which does have goldenrod in it, growing 4 to 6 feet tall right next to one of the most visited places in the county, Walmart.

I do agree, by itself goldenrod is pretty growing but an overgrown weed field next to our biggest business development looks terrible. There is every kind of weed I can think of in this mess.

I respect others choice to grow whatever they want on their property but when it is in the city limits next to our biggest business it needs to be kept mowed like the rest of the property around.

Not to mention, it is what everyone coming through our community sees when they pass or exit on the parkway.

My question is, what business would want to come in here and locate next to a mess like that? That may be why no lots are selling in the development.

I commend the landowners who make sure their parcels of land in this development are kept mowed. Thank you for thinking enough of the community to take the time and money to see it looks inviting to those passing by.

Still sneezing from ragweed/goldenrod on Burkesville Rd. Vicky - Victoria Pike

Big Technology breakthrough in Adair County, 1943 or 44

A ship of 25 new Typewriters arrived. It was a major event

By Jean Waggener Cravens

With all the talk about big technology changes in the schools back home and the reminder of the school bell from Columbia High School and Mr. Joe Taylor, I'll never forget how I much I was impressed when a really big event happened in, I believe, 1943 or 1944 at the High School. The business department at Columbia High School got a shipment of 25 new typewriters!

Only a select few students were allowed to take the classes, and my big brother, Arthur Lee was one of those, and he was admitted to the class in his junior year.
