No. 16-Ranked LWC Football beats Faulkner 37-30 in overtime Attendance 1,658 at Blue Raider Stadium to see Coach Chris Oliver's Blue Raiders maintain unbeaten season Click on headline for complete story By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College quarterback Branden Cresap found a wide open Chris Dobbins down the left sideline for a touchdown on the first play of overtime in a 37-30 win over visiting Faulkner (AL) University on Saturday at Blue Raider Stadium. The Lindsey Wilson defense - who had to endure 116 plays from the Faulkner offense during the game - held the Eagles (3-2) out of the endzone in the overtime to secure the win. No. 16-ranked Lindsey Wilson improves to 5-0 on the season with the win. Dobbins broke free on a wheel route and Cresap hit him stride to give the Blue Raiders their second lead of the day. The touchdown pass was Cresap's fourth toss for score in the game. Faulkner marched to the Lindsey Wilson one-yard line and had first-and-goal in an attempt to extend the game. Faulkner's David Amos -- who finished with a game-high 107 yards rushing -- was stuffed on back-to-back runs up the middle. A false start pushed the Eagles back to the six-yard line and a Sam Wilson's one-yard tackle for a loss led to a fourth-and-goal final play from the seven-yard line. Wilson, Kyle Durbin and Eric Shaw each posted nine tackles to lead the Blue Raider defense. Faulkner quarterback Josh Hollingsworth -- who threw for 392 yards on 36-of-57 passing -- tried to find A.J. Stevenson at the back pylon, but Lindsey Wilson's Treon Hill knocked the pass down to preserve the come-from-behind win. Faulkner scored the game's first 17 points as the Eagles did it with a lengthy drive, a quick strike and a 24-yard field goal. Hollingsworth marched the Eagles 90 yards on 18 plays finishing with a 10-yard strike to Donald Spencer for a 7-0 lead. Faulkner made in 14-0 on its next drive as Hollingsworth connected with Stevenson on a 79-yard pitch and catch. The Eagles extended its lead to 17-0 on Cameron Golob's field goal following a Lindsey Wilson turnover at its own six-yard line. The Blue Raiders finally got on the board with 7:11 left in the second quarter as Mark Corbett hit a 34-yard field goal to make it 17-3. Following a Faulkner punt, Cresap found Tyler Williams in the front endzone from the 24-yard line with 1:00 left in the half to cut the deficit to 17-9. The Blue Raiders would miss the extra point. With momentum on its side, the Lindsey Wilson defense provided one more jolt before the half. Lindsey Wilson's Avery Ford turned his first career interception into the Blue Raiders' second pick-six in the program's history to head to the locker room down 17-16. Ford returned the errant pass 26 yards on the first play of the drive to help the Blue Raiders climb within a single point at the break. Lindsey Wilson won the turnover battle forcing the Eagles into four miscues compared to two turnovers from the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson improved to 11-0 all-time when winning the turnover battle. In the second half, Faulkner extended its lead to 20-16 on a 22-yard field goal from Golob in the only scoring of the third quarter. Lindsey Wilson would take its first lead of the day as Cresap found Cory Davenport out of the backfield for a 20-yard touchdown and a 23-20 lead. The Eagles answered on their next drive with a 10-play, 70-yard drive and a 27-23 lead. Amos scored his second touchdown of the season on a 20-yard scamper with 8:41 left in regulation for the lead. Faulkner forced the Blue Raiders into two straight three-and-outs giving Golob a chance to add to the Eagle lead. His 43-yard field goal gave the Eagles a 30-23 lead with 3:08 left. Needing it the most, the Lindsey Wilson offense sustained its longest drive of the day. The Blue Raiders marched 11 plays and 68 yards to climb within 30-29. Cresap hooked up with Collin Keen on a three-yard score with 11 seconds remaining. The Lindsey Wilson offense lined up to go for the win but an illegal procedure penalty pushed the Blue Raiders back and forced Corbett to make an 18-yard extra point to tie the game at 30-30. Lindsey Wilson completed its second fourth-quarter or overtime comeback win of the season on the 25-yard touchdown toss and subsequent defensive stand. The Eagle offense outgained the Blue Raiders 621-421 during the game while running 45 more offensive plays. Lindsey Wilson's Matt Powers recorded his sixth career 100-yard receiving game with five catches and 115 yards. - Chris Wells This story was posted on 2013-09-28 20:19:06
