News from Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

COLUMBIA, KY - 29-year-old Steven Chaney and 28-year-old Gary Michael Vance, both of Jamestown, were arrested today and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking (Felony). The investigation revealed that 3 men entered a barn owned by Donnie Knight of Jamestown in the early morning hours of July 1, 2013, stealing equipment valued at over $1000.00. Both men were lodged in the Russell County Jail and more arrests are expected. The investigation was conducted by Lt. Eric Wolford and Det. B.J. Burton with the Kentucky State Police at Post 15, Columbia. - TFC BILLY R. GREGORY

Historical Markers to be dedicated to Nettie Depp, Willa Chappel

In Glasgow, KY July 20, 2013

The Glasgow Business and Professional Women's Club and the Kentucky Historical Society invites the public to join in dedicating two historical markers to local women who made great achievements during their lives. Nettie B.C. Depp and Willa Brown Chappell are the subjects of the bronze markers being placed on the lawn of the Barren County Courthouse, 100 Court House Square Glasgow, Kentucky, Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 10amCT Eleanor Jordan, Executive Director of the Kentucky Commission on Women, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Depp was the first Barren County woman to be elected to public office seven years before women were granted the right to vote. Chappell was a noted aviatrix during the World War II era in which she helped train pilots who became part of the famed Tuskeegee Airmen. He was a greatly appreciated citizen of Adair County, KY, the patriarch of a large, highly distinguished family. He was the son of the late Joseph & Birch Burton Feese. His wife of 75 years, Grace Davis Feese, survives. He leaves 44 direct living descendants. He was a member of Beulah Chapel Brethren In Christ Church. During his life he had been a farmer, sawmill owner, tractor dealer, automotive dealer operating Feese Motors in Columbia & Campbellsville, as well as Feese Auto Parts

After nearly 9 hours of being shut down all barricades and detours were removed at 2:40pmCT, Tuesday afternoon, July 9, 2013. Traffic at the Jamestown Street and Russell rd intersection is flowing normally now.

Columbia Police Department would like to extend a thanks to the City Street Department, State Highway Department, Adair County Search and Rescue, and Constable Jason Rector, who stood in the sun with us most of the day detouring traffic. -Ofc. Joshua Brockman

Columbia Police asking motorists to avoid Russell Rd & Jamestown Street

Columbia Police are asking motorists to avoid the intersection of Russell Road and Jamestown Street. Apparently, someone has hit a utility pole which needs to be replaced.

Traffic is stopped at Heskamp on Jamestown Street; at Hurt Street on Jamestown Street; and at Glen Mary Street on Russell Road.

According to Code Enforcement Officer Bill Bailey, a semi-truck apparently hit the pole during the night. It was semi-shattered and teetering. Utility crews have taken the down and will be replacing the pole soon.

Five fatalities reported during Fourth of July holiday period

(FRANKFORT, KY) - Preliminary statistics* indicate that 10 people died in seven separate crashes on Kentucky's roadways from Monday, July 1 through Sunday, July 7, 2013.

One triple-fatality, motor vehicle crash occurred in Perry County and one double-fatality motor vehicle crash occurred in Mason County.
