Columbia man injured in motorcycle collision

A Columbia man was injured in a motorcycle collision Sunday afternoon, June 23, 2013, in the limits of Columbia.

The collision occurred when 63 year Jimmy Hughes of Columbia was operating a 1991 Suzuki motorcycle travelling east on Lancaster street and lost control, causing him to leave the right shoulder of the roadway, striking a parked vehicle in a private drive.

Hughes was treated for leg injuries at the scene by Adair County EMS and transported to Taylor County Regional Hospital, Campbellsville, KY, from the scene for further treatment. Columbia Police Department Ofc. Josh Brockman is investigating. Ofc. Josh Brockman

Laura Farmer, 88, Casey Co., KY native (1924-2013)

She was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of Ohio at the time of her death. She leaves 18 direct and two step living descendants

Laura Farmer, age 88, of West Union, OH passed away on Saturday June 22, 2013, at Adams Co. Manor. Graveside services will be held 11pmCT/12pm noon ET, Tuesday June 25, 2013 at Glenwood Cemetery, with Rev. Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Kim Jolly, Edmonton, KY (1969-2013)

She was a member of the House of Prayer Church where she was actively involved with the youth program as a Sunday School teacher and played the organ. She loved her church and her heritage and inspired so many during her illness. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Kim Jolly, 43, of Edmonton, KY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 23, 2013, at TJ Samson Community Hospital after a long, brave battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 1pmCT, at the House of Prayer Church, 511 Randolph Road, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church beginning on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 3pmCT, and after 9amCT, till service time on Wednesday.

The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights Board of Commissioners met on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Louisville headquarters to rule on discrimination complaints for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The commission ruled to accept five conciliation agreements, accept four case withdrawals that give the complainants the right to file private suits, accept four case withdrawals that were resolved with private settlements, dismiss 18 complaints with findings of no probable cause to evidence that discrimination occurred, and accept four successful mediations with private terms that resulted from meetings between the complainants and respondents under the guidance of a commission attorney.

Conciliation agreements are similar to settlements and are negotiated by commission investigative and legal staff. The agreements resolve the discrimination complaints. The following is the summary of the conciliation agreement accepted at the meeting:

A walk in the holler filled the afternoon with sunshine (which provided some much needed Vitamin D) and beauty (which without a dought in connection with the exercise lowered my blood pressure). The great part of the afternoon was the fact that I remembered -- simple moments are without question the best.
