Larry Smith, Operations Manager, The Big Dawg, 99.9 FM writes: "This photo was taken in 1960 before we had flood control...The old barn with the Double Cola sign is where the Greensburg Dairy Queen is now located....As you can see this is one reason the Green River Dam was built. Residents down the Green River would be flooded every time we had rain for more than 24 hours. Another fact was that the Corp of Engineers want to build the entire lake in Green County starting at Whitewood on the Taylor County line with thousands of acres of water extending to the American Legion Park but conservatives that have controlled the county with an iron fist fought the proposal. while Taylor and Adair Counties wanted the lake and got it and the rest is history..."
