Remembers Hannah Fowler House of the 1960s

Peggy Fudge writes:
Some of the recent features have prompted me to think of a Columbia business from the 60's-the Hannah Fowler House. Not to be confused with the Giles House. It sold really great arts and crafts made in the area and Kentucky. My mother worked there and had a great time going to places like Bybee Pottery to get items for the store. I'd love to hear anyone's memories about this place. - Peggy Fudge
Thanks, Peggy Fudge The house still stands on Russell Road, just east of the AT&T office. We'd love to hear memories and would especially appreciate any photos. - EW

Thinks Do You Remember When No. 1 was between 1926-1933

Clue, he thinks, to Year Mike Watson has in mind is in funeral home ads and the mention of Rainfall School, destroyed by tornado in 1933.
If you think you know the exact year, send your answer, along with the clues and reasons to support your opinion

Richard Raines writes:
I'm going to say sometime between 1926 and 1933, although I don't know an exact year. The newer of the funeral homes in Columbia opened in 1926 (I think forerunner of Grissom-Martin) and I think Stotts-Phelps-McQueary mentioned here opened as Coffey-Stotts funeral home, so that kind of gives an earlier date to the period. Rainfall Schoolhouse was destroyed by a tornado in 1933 (I don't know if it was ever rebuilt or not) since other schools such as Calhoun and Conover wouldn't have been too terribly far away (across land and old roads) --Richard Raines

The Mystery Old Picture was of Adair Sales Co., ca 1928

Partial lineage of a great Adair County enterprise: It was the Ford Dealership in 1928-29, and maybe for years before. The same Ford Dealership which would later be Smith-Flowers Ford, owned by Lee Smith and Alfred Flowers; then Flowers Ford, owned by Robert Flowers, late of banking fame; and then Don Franklin Ford, the flagship of the huge Franklin Group of dealerships started in Columbia, KY
