Larry Smith: History goes up in flames

2013-03-01 - 152 Tebbs Bend Road, Campbellsville Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Tommy Dowell, Jr..
Larry Smith, FM 99.9 The Big Dawg, writes: Tommy Dowell, Jr., sent this picture of the old Civil War Hospital house on Tebbs Bend Road engulfed in fire Thursday evening. The old house has long been an intriguing marking place for southbound travelers along KY 55 between Campbellsville and Columbia and I, for one, appreciate the Dowell family's efforts keep the building standing. It was part of the rich heritage of the Tebb's Bend Battlefield. It's just rubble now. For now, it's made me realize how important the works of the historians trying to preserve and memorialize this important National scene are. A lot of people deserve credit and renewed support, too many to mention - but as a historian, I can't help but mention Betty Jane Gorin-Smith - in my book one of the great authors of all times. - Larry Smith
