Ahh were it so! Unfortunately the Fourth Estate has been ever so. Just as unfortunately it seems it is the human condition for the worst in us to rise and overpower the best in us.

Martha Berry: Carol Perkins right, but should carry it farther

After the first report of a violent incident, coverage ceases to be news and becomes sensationalism. "And that," Martha Berry says., is teaching all the kooks out there exactly how to go about their acts of violence, knowing that they will have their 15 minutes of fame."
Comments re article 57382 Carol Perkins Too much violence

By Martha Berry
Commentary

I have just read Carrol Perkins article on violence and agree 100%. but I would carry it farther.

The media should quit advertising violence.

Small but pretty Sunday snow - February 3, 2013

Snow album. Click on headline for item with photo(s).

There are several snow photos posted from various photographers for the dusting - at least right in Columbia - of snow this morning. There are a few more in the queue. There was only a ground covering at our location, but there seems to have been more on Dillon Street, a fence post cap at Clifty Creek Goat Ranch indicates they may have gotten an inch of snow.

Happy Tail: A Second Chance

Sometimes a dog's first adoption doesn't work out. But that doesn't mean giving up on the dog. 'Dogs are like people. We all deserve a second chance. In different situations we all react in our own way. So do the dogs. Some dogs will let another dog take their food. Other dogs it's just not happening. - PEG SCHAEFFER
Next earlier Happy Tail: Happy Tail: Kid's Best Friend

By Peg Schaeffer

In the early fall of 2009 I received a call from a woman who had found a dog with four puppies. She and her husband were driving in Tennessee and saw a skinny dog on the side of the road. They stopped and could see she was nursing puppies. They tried to follow her to her litter but she kept leading them away. Then they noticed a path in the grass. They followed the path and found four puppies that were approximately two or three weeks old. Once the Mom saw they had found her puppies she sat by them and looked at Paulette and her husband as if to ask them for help.

Memories of Chance, KY and O.G. Rowe: Mother's teacher

' . . . I never saw him be anything but happy and joking.' - JANICE NEWTON REED

By Janice Newton Reed

By the time I came along, O. G. Rowe was mail carrier and store operator.

My mother (Ida Mae Bardin) had him for a teacher. She said she would sit most of the school day, on O.G's desk and combed his hair while he taught the rest of the kids.

She was handicapped and was unable to walk to school most of the time.

When I was living here, he delivered the U.S.Mail. He would put the mail in the box and blow his horn. If I was there to go after the mail, he said "give me a hug so I can go." He would stick his head out the truck window and I would hug his neck. He was ready to go then. And his hair was about gone then.

He was a very nice man and I never saw him be anything but happy and joking. --Janice Newton Reed

Carol Perkins: Too much violence

A big cause of violence in America, she thinks, lies in violence in video games, Tv, and movies
The next earlier Carol Perkins column: Carol Perkins: Cold weather has come

By Carol Perkins

Just as all of us are, I am very disturbed by the onset of so many violent acts directed toward kids in our country. It is becoming a widespread epidemic and we are reaching, searching, and longing for answers. No longer do we have to worry just about high school students, but as we watched what happened at Sandy Hook and other places, we know the youngest, most innocent of all are at risk.
