CU Track opens 2013 season setting records Campbellsville University Indoor Track and Field opens 2013 season with 10 broken records, 11 national qualifiers Next: CU Track competes at Depauw Invitational By Chris Megginson / Campbellsville Sports Information Director MARION, IN - Campbellsville University started indoor track and field season a little later than some schools, but made up for it in a hurry Saturday at the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcat Invitational. The Tigers and Lady Tigers broke 10 school records and qualified 11 individuals in 18 events for the upcoming National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championships, Feb. 15-16 at IWU. CU senior Tiosha Beasley (Bowling Green, KY) also qualified for the NAIA National Championships in triple jump and long jump, the events she won national titles for last May in the NCAAA outdoor season. "I'm really proud of everyone today. I feel we really put a lot into our events, and it really shoes with all of the school records broken and national qualifiers," said Hilary Cebulko, interim head coach for track and field. "It was a great first meet of the season, and I can't wait to see what remains." Beasley finished third in the long jump competition with an indoor record distance of 5.47 meters (17.9 feet) as she qualified for the NAIA meet with a B standard mark. In addition to qualifying in both of her jumps, she also qualified for the NCCAA meet in the 200-meter dash. Two Lady Tigers broke and tied the women's indoor record for high jump. Myra Rose (Louisville, KY) and Kailene Allis (Norton, Ohio) both jumped 1.57 meters (5.15 feet) in the high jump to qualify for the NCCAA championships. Allis edged Rose in the tie breaker to win the overall event at the meet. Her first-place finish and Beasley's first-place finish in the triple jump were the only winning marks for CU in the meet. The other two women's records came on the track as senior Starsha Fant (Louisville, KY) set the CU record in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:50.31 and freshman Kelsey Feltner (Campbellsville, KY) placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a record time of 8.25 seconds to qualify for the NCCAA championships. Other NCCAA qualifiers for the women were Lauren Little (Sturgis, KY) and Feltner in the 200-meter dash, JaNaiqua Horne (Radcliff, KY) in the triple jump and high jump, Alexis Crawford (Louisville, KY) in the shot put and Rose in the 400-meter dash and triple jump. On the men's side, CU broke seven school records, six of those were set entirely by CU freshmen in their first collegiate indoor track and field meet. Cebulko's recruiting in cross country and distance in the offseason proved to be a large chunk of them. Joey Hartlage (Louisville, KY) and Dylan Ford (Campbellsville, KY) were both part of CU's record-setting relay teams in the 4x800 and 4,000 meter distance medley, while individually breaking times in the 1,000-meter run (2:48.09) and mile run (4:39.16), respectively. Joining the duo on the 4x800 meter relay team were William Pearson (Dothan, Ala.) and Micheal Dowell (Louisville, KY). The group finished fourth in a time of 8:47.78. Clayton Embry (Morgantown, KY) joined Hartlage, Ford and Dowell on the DMR to place third with a time of 11:08.22. The other distance record in the meet came from Brett Pierce (Edgewood, KY), who finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:04.99. In shorter distances, Eurodge Bargblor (Bowling Green, KY) qualified for the NCCAA championships with a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 7.08 seconds. The other record broken Saturday was in the 4x200 meter relay, which finished fourth in a time of 1:36.56. Team members were freshmen Blake Kennedy (Hebron, KY), Bobby Mingie (Owenton, KY), Brandon Green (Bowling Green, KY) and junior Tim Perdue (Eddyville, KY). Joining Bargblor and Pierce as NCCAA qualifiers were Emby in the 60-meter hurdles and Perdue in the triple jump and long jump.
