Annual Cattlemen's Association meeting is at 6:30pmCT at LWC

All Adair County Cattlemen's Association members and prospective members are invited to attend the Cattlemen's Association Annual Meeting at 6:30pmCT, Monday, January 28, 2013, at Lindsey Wilson College's Cranmer Dining Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY. There will be awards presented and officer elections. Farm Credit Services will sponsor the meal. The Adair County Cattlemen's Association is one of the largest organizations representing farmers. The association meets about six times a year, hosts an annual Field Day, and provides scholarship opportunities to Adair County students wishing to attend college. Dues are $30 for single membership, and $45 for couples membership. Becoming a member of the Cattlemen's Association also makes one a member of the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association. Members receive a monthly magazine entitled "Cow Country News" which features hot topics in the industry as well as the most update research for KY cattle producers. Adair County and the City of Columbia will be utilizing the CodeRED Emergency Notification System on Friday, February 1, 2013 to call the entire community. The calls will take place after 10amCT in the MORNING and will continue until the entire database has been attempted. This call will give Adair County and the City of Columbia personnel the chance to operate the system as if there has been a community wide disaster.

ACHS A-Team wins 8th in row District Title, Sets School Records

District Governor's Cup Team Champions in both Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving. Individual medalists include Heather Jackson, Matt Rogers, Timoty Watson, and Brittany Curry; Rebecca Montgomery gets a 2nd Place in Quick Recall. with strong performances from Jessi Taylor, Cody Giles, Noah Richard, Thomas Murrell Alan Godsey. Future Problem Solving champs are Emmalee Baker, Kyle Castaneda, Sarah McQuaide, Amber Turner, and Roslin Wilson. Emmalee Baker will compete for team and as individual at Regionals. Accompanying the Quick Recall team to regionals will be rising stars Eli Jackson, Austin Bradshaw, Zane Sanders, and Treyton Grant.

News from Adair County High School Academic Team

The Adair County High School Academic Team won the 2013 Governor's Cup District Championship on Saturday, January 26, for the 8th year in a row. The school was selected to host this year's competition, and in front of supporters on their home turf, the team stormed through all rounds of Quick Recall to capture 1st Place and defend their reputation as one of southern Kentucky's best teams on the buzzers. In addition, the Future Problem Solving team--a perennial world championship qualifier--swept all judges' top rankings for 1st Place in their competition.

A BOIL WATER ADVISORY is in effect for consumers of CAUD

(COLUMBIA, KY - Issued at 11amCT, Received at 11:51amCT, Monday, January 28, 2013) Columbia/Adair Utilities District (CAUD) has issued a Boil Water Advisory, for customers on
Baker Street, Cole Street, Greensburg Street, Mack Street, Mitchell Street, Walker Street, Hudson Street up to Royal Manor Apt., Stults Street, Rice Drive, Watson Street, Crestview Street, Wall Street, Merchant Street, South High Street, North High Street, East Fortune Street and East Guardian Street.
The advisory has been issued due to a main line leak. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using. This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 31 at 11amCT, at Strode Funeral Home, 204 Columbia Avenue, Tompkinsville, KY, with burial to follow in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn with military rites performed at graveside by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow, KY. Unknown person(s) damages bookmobile; it's off road today, tomorrow

Public reminded that when library is closed, parking lot is closed. Bookmobile damaged by unknown individual. Bookmobile parked today and tomorrow. Harvey Ellis will be assessing the damage to see when it can be roadworthy,It's all a matter of safety: New bookmobile suffers significant damage while parked in lot. Library director stresses what should have been obvious - that when the library is closed, the parking lot is closed.

Special CM Story

The Adair County Public Library's beautiful new bookmobile suffered significant damage during last week's ice storm, and officials want anyone with information on the incident to report it to 270-284-2472.

Because of the damage, the bookmobile is out of service today, Monday, January 29, 2013, and tomorrow, while it is being checked out for roadworthiness at Harvey Ellis, and while the library is negotiating with its insurance carrier, according to Lee Ann Jessie, the library director.

CU attains 86th in nation ranking for online programs

U.S. News & World Report gives Campbellsville program only numerical rating in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Other Kentucky schools that made the list but whose rank was not published include Murray State University and Western Kentucky University

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - U.S. News & World Report has released the list of the best online programs in the nation and Campbellsville University has been acknowledged. In the 2013 Best Online Graduate Business Programs report, Campbellsville University is ranked 86th. Campbellsville University was the only college in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to be ranked in this report with a numerical value. Other Kentucky schools that made the list but whose rank was not published include Murray State University and Western Kentucky University.

Evelyn Henry Rice, 105, formerly of Campbellsville, KY (1907-2013)

She completed an extraordinary life of extraordinary length: 105 years. Her marriage to Campbellsville Dentist Dr. Howard Rice spanned over 64 years enduring until his death in 1996. She leaves 10 direct living descendants. She was a native of Nicholas County, KY. Most of her adult life was spent in Campbellsville, KY. She was a very highly regarded citizen of Taylor County, KY. After retirement from a career as a teacher at Campbellsville High School, she worked as a customer service representative at Taylor County Bank for 10 years. She was a member of the Campbellsville Woman's Club, member and past regent of the David Allen Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Campbellsville Coterie Club and treasurer for many years of Friends of the Library
