Evelyn Henry Rice, 105, formerly of Campbellsville, KY (1907-2013)

She completed an extraordinary life of extraordinary length: 105 years. Her marriage to Campbellsville Dentist Dr. Howard Rice spanned over 64 years enduring until his death in 1996. She leaves 10 direct living descendants. She was a native of Nicholas County, KY. Most of her adult life was spent in Campbellsville, KY. She was a very highly regarded citizen of Taylor County, KY. After retirement from a career as a teacher at Campbellsville High School, she worked as a customer service representative at Taylor County Bank for 10 years. She was a member of the Campbellsville Woman's Club, member and past regent of the David Allen Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Campbellsville Coterie Club and treasurer for many years of Friends of the Library

Evelyn Henry Rice, 105 years of age, of Wetumpka, formerly of Campbellsville, KY died at 5:45amCT, Friday, January 25, 2013, in Wetumpka, AL.

Funeral services will be at 10amCT/11amET, Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY by Rev. Ron Young, Barry Bertram and Anne Fraim. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery on West Main Street, Campbellsville, KY.



Pallbearers: George Atkinson, Barry Bertram, Phil Allan Bertram, Thomas R. McMahan, Don Metzmeier, and Frank Metzmeier.

Evelyn Henry Rice, 105, formerly of Campbellsville, KY (1907-2013)

Evelyn Henry Rice was the daughter of the late Howard Lee Henry and Blanche Rattliff Henry. She was born in Nicholas County, Kentucky, Sunday, June 10, 1907. She died Friday, January 25, 2013, in Wetumpka, Elmore County, AL, at the age of 105 years, 7 months, and 15 days.

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She was a graduate of Winchester High School, Kentucky Wesleyan College and did graduate studies at the University of Kentucky.

She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in Harlan County and Campbellsville High School. While teaching at Campbellsville High School she taught English, Latin, Social Studies and almost any other subject that needed a teacher. She was Senior Class Sponsor for 30 years, editor of the yearbook for 24 years, and cheerleader sponsor for 10 years.

She didn't like retirement so she worked as a Customer Service Representative for Taylor County Bank for ten years. She was a member of the Campbellsville Woman's Club, member and past regent of the David Allen Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Campbellsville Coterie Club and treasurer for many years of Friends of the Library.

She is survived by the following:
  • One son and daughter-in-law: Howard Henry and Glenda Rice of Wetumpka, AL

  • Three grandchildren: Howard Christopher Rice and wife, Ange of Fitzpatrick, AL, Evelyn Rice O'Leary and husband, Joseph of Birmingham, AL and Charles Jeffrey Rice and wife, Cecile of Montgomery, AL

  • Six great-grandchildren: Jeffrey Taylor Rice, Charles Jacob Rice, Kendall Anne Rice, Phillip Matthew Howard Rice, Michael Christopher O'Leary and William Henry O'Leary; several other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: William Howard Henry and Charles Rattliff Henry.
