Fast track your next Events announcement

Simple 1-2 step way to send events to ColumbiaMagazine.com

A number of contributors have adopted a submission procedure with has streamlined posts to the CM Events calendar. It's a simple 1-2 method:
1) Copy and Edit (Make the changes needed to fit your Event.) from one of CM online Events posts. They are edited to say it the way we say it and the way we post it - in the exact sequence, style, content, even the spacing we use. Small things matter, like the way we say a time and date ("5amCT/6amET, Saturday, October 20, 2012"). This is the way we say time, day, month day and year on the site.

After making the changes:

2) Copy and Send, "Special to ColumbiaMagazine.com" addressed only and exclusively (submissions with multiple addressees or through third parties are filter and likely won't make it online) to edwaggener@gmail.com
Because of the time savings to ColumbiaMagazine.com, submissions handled in this manner are given a higher priority in the queue. If a submission is not posted within two hours, call 270-250-2730. Thanks. - Ed Waggener

Vietnam era vet thanks thoughtful Columbia store employee

By Daryl Branham

I had an interesting thing happen to me this week. I was at the Newcomb Oil Co. store across from Gate and when I came out, a Newcomb employee came up and shook my hand and thanked me for being a veteran. He said he saw my vet license plate and just wanted to thank me.

I served from 1971-1976 and this was a first for me. He said his sister served but had passed away. I did not participate in any war but I was a Vietnam War era vet, and had orders to go, but the de-escalation of the war had started and my orders were canceled.

I thank those who served and mourn for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Hug a vet or just shake his or hand.

- Daryl Branham
