Click on headline for story (in progress) plus photos/links for Saturday's dedication By Chris Bennett With additional first hand contributors The B-58 Historical marker dedication at McKinney turned out great due to the hard work of several Adair county folks. Aimee Reed, Bro Bill Davenport, Billy Pickett, and Joe Hare with members of the Columbia VFW Post 6097, and the guys of Patriot Guard Riders played a major part in the success of the dedication. Alan W. Reed is responsible for bringing all these elements together in a way that initiated a memorable memorial dedication that a crowd of around 200 attended. Members of the Columbia VFW 6097 Present were: Ronnie Holt-Honor Guard Commander/Rifleman; Joe Hare-Rifleman; Kenneth Scott-Rifleman; Orvis Grider-Flag Bearer; Charles Green-Flag Bearer. Joe Hare, on Sunday morning, June 25, 2012 has unforgettable memories of the day. He writes:"My thought: This was one of the most reverent crowds that I have ever seen gathered outside of a church or funeral home. Everyone there wanted to make sure they honored those three fallen heroes. Alan Reed and Chris Bennett should reach back over their shoulders this morning and pat themselves on the back for a 'job well done.' Patriot Guard Riders from Adair and Cumberland Counties who attended were: Steve Burris, Sue Burris, Jeff Schorman, Ron Griffith, Jimmy Walker, Mark Polston, CR Drake, Terri Drake, and Pat Hare. Adair County Historian Mike Watson was there, and had these comments:"This ceremonial Kentucky Historical Marker dedication was a moving experience. The organizers prepared and presented a program that honored the service of the men involved in the tragedy as well as their families and those who were on the scene soon after the crash, and in the days that followed. Chris Bennett, Alan Reed and all the others associated with the revival of remberance of this fateful event accomplished much more than they may realize by reminding all of us of what had surely become a mere footnote in history."Thanks for all the Adair County support. -Chris Bennett Related links: B58Memorial.com Danville, Advocate-Messenger story on the dedication recommended by Chris Bennett. 2012-06-23 22:22:26 | Comments | Printable version
