He was a member of a large, respected Cumberland County, KY, family. He leaves 10 direct living descendants. He was a farmer and oil driller

Mr. J. H. "Foots" Crawley, age 70, of the Modoc Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky passed away on Monday May 28, 2012 at his home in Burkesville, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 12pm noon CT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N. Main Street, Burkesville, KY. Burial will follow in the Leona Smith-Ferguson Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 7pmCT, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 until service time on Friday.

Phyllis Whited Carman, Casey County, KY (1949-2012)

She was a member of the Liberty First Baptist Church and a beautician. She was a long time employee of Tarter Gate, secretary for the Casey County Jail and Deputy County Judge Executive for Judge Hoskins

Phyllis Whited Carman passed away Monday May 28, 2012 at her home in Liberty. She was 62.

Funeral services are 11amET/10amCT, Thursday May 31, 2012 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Jimmy Brown and Linda Peyton officiating. Burial is in Watson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is 6pm-9pmET/5pm-8pmCT, Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the funeral home.

Judge Ruby Jane Wallace, Metcalfe Co., KY (d. May 26, 2012)

Edmonton, KY has lost one of its most beloved citizens. Judge Wallace was known for her embracing, warm smile, and the genuine care she had for others. She was the matriarch of a large, highly regarded Metcalfe County family and the widow of long time Metcalfe County political power, former Sheriff and Judge, and Deputy Judge Gilbert Wallace. She leaves 32 direct living descendants. She was the daughter of the late James Filmore and Minnie Hurt Froedge. Ruby was City Judge from 1968-1977 and worked at Metcalfe Drugs as a store clerk for several years

Ruby Jane Wallace age 89 of Edmonton died Saturday, May 26 2012 at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

Funeral services will be at 11amCT, Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Edmonton Cemetery. Visitation will be 3pm-8pmCT, Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

Gene McQueary was a member of a respected Casey County, KY, family. He leaves Eight direct living descendants. He was an auto mechanic and member of Rocky Road Church of Christ. He enjoyed playing and listening to music with his family and friends. He also enjoyed being on the CB radio, where his handle was 'Ford Man'

Memorial Day services at the VFW Post 6097 Hall and Monument for 2012 was a much better attended program in 2012 than in many years past. Attendance of guests was approximately double what it had been the year before.

Mr. Wayne Kidd, Green County, KY (1930-2012)

Mr. Wayne Kidd, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, departed this life on May 27, 2012 at his home.

The funeral services for Mr. Wayne Kidd will be conducted at 1pmCT., Monday, May 28, 2012 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Liberty Separate Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Todd Davis will be officiating. Visitation will be after 11amCT Monday until service time at the funeral home.

Good news: Duramax is back where he belongs, at home in Milltown with Kathy and Bobby Downey. Thanks go to everyone who helped, especially the special lady who picked him up for his own safety and protected him at her home in Breeding, KY - 15 miles away.

JIM: The Nazarene Church buildings, 1947-1948

When 1947 fire burned the sanctuary first built for a United Brethren church, the Columbia Church of the Nazarene temporarily met in the chapel of Lindsey Wilson College. The devastating fire occurred shortly after the furnace had been fired up for the Sunday morning services.

As stated in Nicole Legg's note yesterday (Old Church Bell guards another piece of Nazarene history), the original Nazarene Church building was the one erected in the 1914-15 by the United Brethren in Christ and was located at what currently is 308 Jamestown Street.

Reward offered for return of wallet lost at Columbia Walmart

Tiffany Janes writes: 200.00 reward is offered for the return of a wallet that was lost yesterday at Columbia Walmart. It's black and sequined with lips on the front of it. There was only 2 dollars in it and I'm not concerned with that, but there was also a fake necklace in it that was given to me by my husband and if anyone knows where it is or has any information on it, I would greatly appreciate it. -Tiffany Janes

On Wednesday night, May 23, 2012, kids who attended Egypt Christian Church Vacation Bible School brought pennies to donate to the "Super Blane & Friends" Relay for Life Team. Kids brought a total of $214.71 in pennies. Egypt Christian Church matched the VBS donation totaling the amount to $429.42.In the student group were Reece Bardin, Blane Bardin, Cole Richardson, Gatlin Parnell, Emma Ellison, Anna Marie Day, Jasmine Webster, Ashley Owens, Skylar Parnell, Avery Shuffett, Jadie Smith and Haley Ellison --Alice Curry
