Russell Co, Kentuckian, 17, dies of injuries sustained in collision

Follow up to story: Three flown to UK after head-on collision near Jamestown, KY

COLUMBIA, KY - Post 15 was notified today that 17-year-old Tanner Mann died today as a result of injuries sustained in Wednesday's collision. He was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner's office at approximately 3pmET, Friday, May 4, 2012.

Memorial service for Tpr. Johnny Edrington May 15, 2012

COLUMBIA, KY - A Memorial Service for slain Tpr. Johnny Edrington will be held on Tuesday, May 15 , 2012 at 2pmET/1pmCT, at the Brookside Cemetery, West Main Street, Campbellsville, KY.

Trooper Johnny M. Edrington, age 34, was shot and killed December 21, 1988, during a traffic stop on KY 0080 seven miles west of London in Laurel County. No suspect was ever apprehended. Trooper Edrington was assigned to Post 11 London and had served with the Kentucky State Police for three years. He was survived by his wife, who was expecting the couple's first child. Trooper Edrington is buried in Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville, KY.

In honor of his service and sacrifice, US 0068 in Taylor county has been designated the Trooper Johnny M. Edrington Memorial Highway.

He was a highly respected retired school teacher and coach with the Marion County, KY, school system. He was a member of the Meadowview Baptist Church where he served as deacon. His union with Sharon Speer Reese spanned 47 years. He leaves 5 direct living descendants.

Funeral services are, at 2pmET/1pmCT, , Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Bro. Brent Gupton , Bro. John David Lee & Mike Kiger. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, West Main Street, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation is 5pm-8pmET/4pm-7pmCT, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 3pmCT, Monday, May 7, 2012, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, Ky, with burial in the Fancher Cemetery in Metcalfe County, KY. Visitation will be 4pm-8pmCT Sunday, May 6, 2012, and after 9amCT, Monday at the funeral home.

Adair Co., KY, superintendent search screening committee meets

A successor to Superintendent Darrell Treece (2003 photo, left). Fifteen applications received. Committee will meet again Tuesday, May 8, 2012, to further evaluate applications. New superintendent expected to be hired in time to take office after June 30, 2012. Will replace Supt. Darrell Treece, who has announced he would not be superintendent after June 30, 2012. Mr. Treece has served since 2003.

The Adair County Farmer's Market will open on Friday, May 4, 2012. Farmer's Market hours for May 2012 will be Tuesdays, 3pm-6pmCT and Fridays 6am-10amCT. The Farmer's Market will begin Saturday morning sales sometime in June as more produce becomes available.

2012 Project Graduation will have $10,000 in prizes

Two LWC Academic Honor Societies induct new members

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College community inducted new members into two honor societies Thursday. Seven new members were inducted into the LWC chapter of Alpha Chi, and 11 new members were inducted into Sigma Tau Delta.

Alpha Chi National College Honor Society is a 90-year-old coeducational academic honor society with the focus on promoting academic excellence and exemplary character among its members. The honor society is open to the top 10 percent of a school's juniors, seniors and graduate students.

The LWC students who were inducted into Alpha Chi were: Kailyn Conner of Albany, KY; Michelle Copley of Russell Springs, KY; Lacy Harris of Greensburg, KY; Heini Metsola of Helsinki; Brittany Pike of Campbellsville, KY; Lydia Tiller of Columbia; and Natalie Vickous of Lancaster, KY.

Founded in 1924, Sigma Tau Delta is an honor society for college English majors. The LWC students who were inducted into Sigma Tau Delta were: Brandi Crowe of Tompkinsville, KY; Tyler Flatt of Russell Springs, KY; Brandon Girdley of Louisville, KY; Alexia Hines of Paducah, KY; Amber Kemp of Columbia; Phyllis Lewis of Greensburg, KY; Casey McGowan of Jamestown, KY; Justin McMillian of Tompkinsville, KY; Christina O'Rourke of Columbia; Anna Sundean of Lawrenceburg, KY; and Amelia Withers of Jamestown, KY. - Duane Bonifer

Like most of the Redbud trees in the area your tree has just a little freezer burn.

The below freezing temperatures a few days ago really took a toll on their tender young leaves.

Truck drivers help contain LBN Parkway auto fire

Three miles east of Columbia, KY, 10 miles west of Russell Springs, KY

The Adair Co Fire Dept responded to a automobile fire Thursday afternoon at 4:48pmCT to the 52mm on the Louie B Nunn parkway. Upon arrival most of fire contained by fire extinguishers by truck drivers. Damaged in the fire was a 99 Ford Taurus owned by Vicky Robertson of Russell Springs. The fire was contained to the engine compartment. There were 15 firemen on the scene for around 15 minutes
