Anon learned about pi and cornbread from Cookie Harris

Splanation: No, pie are round; *cornbread* are square - ANON

Deponent Anon sayeth further
Ed, The comment about the cryptic title of my rant was tongue in check, I hope. Just in case it wasn't tho', and you are genuwinely so slow it takes you 20 minutes to catch a joke here's the explanation:
In a joke so old it makes me look plum' spring chickenish, a country boy comes home for the first time after being away at college. His father, wanting to make sure his tuition dollars are being wisely used, insists that Junior say something smart, so Junior pops off with the first thing that comes to mind: "Pi r square," where upon Pop begins whupping up on Junior with his hat as he yells, "No, no, no, you ignoramus! Everybody knows pie are round. *Cornbread* are square!"
The first time I ever heard that one was one morning at least half a century, as told by the one and only Cookie Harris.

And deponent sayeth not further.
Thanks, again, Anon. Now It's understood. And for those who don't know, Cookie Harris is one of the greatest radio announcers ever to brighten the airwaves. - Ed

The big annual Saturday Spring Clean-up won't happen this year, Judge Ann Melton announced at the Tuesday, March 13, 2012 Adair Fiscal Court. Funding cuts from Pride necessitated the change, she said. But the county does have funds available for free tipping, which, she said, actually does the most good.

No, pie are round; *cornbread* are square - ANON

Anonymous sends more on the idea of mathematical concept of "pi" and its history, which, he says, is thousands of years old
The ancient Egyptians, (Eastern) Indians, and Babylonians, among others, not to mention relative newcomer Archimedes (3rd century B.C.), would certainly be surprised to learn that pi (the constant ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter) was discovered a mere three centuries ago.

It was in 1706 -- three hundred and six years ago - that Welshman Wm. Jones first used the Greek letter pi (it resembles two uprights supporting a tilde) as a symbol for that ratio, but the concept of the ratio stretches back some four millennia from our lofty perch of 2012. -Far away reader who asked to be signed ANONYMOUS - Why we can't be sure, but his information is interesting. That's his cryptic headline, by the way.
