A note on the closing of the 300 Quadrant of Square today

A little pain in progress, but worth it in the end: Mayor Harris responds that those on the walk being rebuilt were notified, and that miscommunication with contractor on the extent of today's work was unintentional, but the experience will help on future projects. The contractor has assured him, he said, that the work 300 Quadrant of the Square will be cleared by opening of business Monday morning. -CM

Stephanie Feese and Phylis Gooden write
Our corner of the square (the 300 Quadrant) is closed today due to utility work. We were unaware of this until we arrived (today, Saturday, November 5, 2011) to open our businesses. We apologize to our customers who may have driven from surrounding counties to shop with us today. We were not told by city officials the corner would be closed or we would have announced prior to today. Please post this as soon as possible. - STEPHANIE FEESE, CF DISCOUNT; PHYLIS GOODEN 4-SEASONS
Note: Thanks for making the note. The work underway is the rebuilding of the historic Well Walk off the Square, a badly needed project. Mayor Harris says he is sorry for any any inconvenience to your businesses. It was his thought that the Flower Garden, Barger Insurance, Edward Jones, 4-Seasons and C-F Discount could be assessed by the sidewalks and from the ample parking on the rest of the Square.

The Breakfast with Bob crowd was up approximately 33.3%

Last year we had approximatly 150 people and it was even bigger this year with around 200 people sharing their morning with us!

It always amazes us to see our "Band Moms and Dads" in action. The "Band Dad's" washed dishes, ran errands, and helped cook while the "Band Moms" cooked, served, ran the auctions, and everybody pitched in to clean-up. They are the best!

The support this community gives us can never be repaid. Today's efforts raised enough money to finish paying for our trip to Nationals this week and we can't say THANK YOU enough!

The rough estimate of today's breakfast, Rifle Raffle, and silent auctions which is around $8,000 dollars has finished covering our expenses!! Hopefully, we will make you all proud with our efforts!

Thanks again to everyone who donated today!

The Kentucky YellowWood Trees: More information

Charles Marshburn Sends a link to Tree Pictures Online.com: YellowWood Tree Pictures
with over a dozen photos of the fabulous flowering tree.

Billy Joe Fudge is on the case. He notes the scientific name bears tribute to the Commonwealth: Cladrastis kentea. He remembers finding a stand away from limestone cliffs - even though, he notes, the tree ddoes have a need for alkaline soil. These were, he said, in the valley behind the Keltner, Adair Co., KY store, and may have been in Green County. He wasn't sure of the County lines. That's not far from the Metcalfe County line, either.

The tree is also called Virgila sometimes. But most commonly, it is Kentucky Yellowwood, and secondly, American Yellowwood. And he says, Wikipedia's entry on Yellowwood says, "Kentucky Yellowwood is recommended as one of the best medium sized trees for cultivation an ornamental plant in gardens."

That entry also says "The yellow heartwood is used in small amountsfor specialist furniture and gundstocks and decorative woodturning."

First and foremost Adair was and is built upon the predicate that success is about striving for excellence rather than winning. I guess then we could say, based upon 20 state championships, that Adair has proven that winning is found and refined in the striving and the result is success.
