Two identify owlet found by Brandon Hitch

Two people have identified the owl photographed by Brandon Hitch.Eric Hare wrote that he's no ornithologist, but said the bird is a young Great Horned Owl.

Derek Coomer wrote, "Brandon Hitch's bird is a fledgling Great Horned Owl. This owl is just now learning how to fly, so it's very approachable. Though if its parents are nearby they may attack anyone who gets too close."Thanks to all who contributed to this Birds of Kentucky entry

Robert H. Stone Poetry: Five Ws and an H sonnet

The Five W's and An H Sonnet
- for ColumbiaMagazine
I thought I had the perfect line to end
a sonnet fresh and lively for today
but somewhere somehow those few words did wend
unknown to me along another way.

I thought I had the tantalizing turn
to keep my reader tuned to hear much more
but somewhat somewhen teasing did adjourn
ignoring my desire to rip and roar.

I thought I had the tallest tale to tell
and would the world bedazzle with my skill
but somewho somewhy backward cast my spell
dismantling all the webs of my poor will.

I think I have some chances left to try
but some will say, let sleeping sonnets lie.

Agrees with Dianne Loy on Dr. Coffey

Devonna McVay writes:
i will have to agree with Dianne Loy. Dr Coffey is a very good vet. She is kind and considerate to others. I had to have our boxer put to sleep almost two years ago. and I took him to Dr. Coffey. She was so nice to me and helped me with any questions that I had about what had to be done. My boxer also had cancer. He was like one of my kids. so it was so hard to have to have something like that done. But i promise you Dr. Coffey is a good doctor and would recommend her to anyone. She definitely has a heart when it come to animals.Devonna McVay

Reader wants information on Rainbow Rescue

About: Black and White Small Long Haired Dog

Tiffany Smith writes:
In one of the classifieds the person had found a dog and stated if not claimed it would be taken to Rainbow Rescue. Could you tell me where that is? It's not my dog, was just wondering where this was located. I was unaware we had another rescue around here. Just curious. I know curiosity killed the cat, but, oh, well. -Tiffany Smith
Thanks. Maybe a reader will post the answer to your question. It was very brave of you to risk the cat's fate. -CM

On first visit, she says, the doctor correctly diagnosed the case. Costs were much lower, and the doctor's down to earth, caring, true blue manner instilled lasting confidence

By Dianne Loy
Commentary: The personal opinion on veterinary care

We just lost our family best friend of 10 years and are very heart broken, but at the same time realized how lucky we are in Adair County to have a vet like Janice Coffey.

Our dog had cancer for over a year. We had been taking our dog to another vet for six months or over and then took him to see Dr. Coffey and within a week we knew what was wrong with him - cancer of the left nostril.

CM Complaint Dept: Charles Marshburn worried about his bridge

Comments re article 42746. Rain swollen Big Creek a reminder of grim Gradyville FloodCharles Marshburn writes:
Those Muck boots have moved to the top of my shopping list! Just wish the county was as worried about my bridge as I am. They are aware of the problem. -Charles Marshburn
Mr. Marshburn, while I sympathize with your plight and would help if I had ary a bit of say at the Annex Building, I don't and won't. I'd suggest that you contact your Magistrate,( whose name will be withheld until you calm down; he's a pretty decent sort); your school board member, or U. S. Representative. If it's any consolation, I'll worry about your bridge with you and will request Ralph Roy's does, too. Heck, he might see it as an outrage and write a piece about the injustice in the IJFASN. Rollin Coomer lived on your road for decades and never complained, but he's a tough rascal whose reign as Colonel's Orderly in the U.S. Army was superior to Ali's as heavyweight world champion. -ED

Larry Smith calls with news from Green Co. Schools

Highly respected educator, Jim Frank, will become the third superintendent of Green County Schools in nearly three-quarters of a century. Smith says stability of the system is one of major reasons for its excellence

Larry Smith called this morning to let CM readers who may not have heard his full report on The WAVE, 92.7 FM this morning, know that a highly respected educator, Jim Frank, is the new Superintendent of Green County Schools.

According to Smith, a Green County native, there have only been three superintendents of the Green County School System in almost three-quarters of a century, starting with legendary Lucille Pickett Guthrie, who, he said, led Green County Schools from the 1940's until 1980, when Marshall "Buddy" Lowe became superintendent and led the schools until his replacement, Jim Frank, takes office.
