Poetry by Jackie Montgomery: Time for Hot Tea

Time for Hot Tea and Soon the Joy
of Awakening Children on a No-School Day
Glee. Gloating. Tittering.
Grumbles. Murderous glares from single opened eye slits. Grunting.
Aromas of home-baked apple muffins, bacon, green chile omelettes.
Stirrings and stretchings. Heavy-footed steps down the hall.
Heavy-bottomed tushes down in chairs.
Bright chattering and singing amid a flurry of morning kitchen katas.
Rumblings. Perking. Recounting of overnight dreams.
Butter? Cream? Juice?
Mmmhmm. Hmmmm? WHAT time is it??!!
Glee. Gloating. Tittering.

Hawk swoops in, takes out Starling

Maury Lewis counts 17 cardinals at the feeders in her yard

M.E. Lewis writes:
There is one less Starling at my feeders now. Some kind of Hawk came swooping in, the birds scattered, but one Starling wasn't fast enough.

I guess he had eaten so much of the Garden Club suet balls he was too heavy to fly fast enough to get away.

At one time yesterday there were 17 cardnials at the feeders in my yard. I hope they are still around for the GBBC. -Maury Lewis
