Burton, Key and Smith named NAIA Golf All-Americans

COLUMBIA, KY - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2010 Women's Golf All-America teams on Friday and three Lindsey Wilson College student-athletes were honored.

Seniors Krista Burton and Jessica Smith earned first-team honors, while junior Chelsey Key was an honorable-mention selection.

Obituary: Artie Elmer Bragg, 89, Adair County, KY

She was a member of a large, respected Adair-Metcalfe County area family. She was a member of the Prices Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late Willie Jackson Bragg; their union had endured 65 years until his death in 2006

Artie Elmer Bragg, 89, of the Prices Creek Community of Adair Co., KY died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.

The funeral service will be Sunday, June 13, 2010, at 1pmCT, at Prices Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 1636 Price's Creek RD with Bro. Danny Wayne Sexton and Bro. Danny Dickson officiating. Burial will be in the Bragg Family Cemetery, 100 Bragg Cemetery RD in Western Adair Co, KY. Visitation will be after 2pmCT, Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY.

Yellow Ribbon Rally at CCC to help send Bibles for Soldiers

The Columbia Christian Church is hosting a Yellow Ribbon Rally at 10amCT, Sunday, June 13, 2010,at the church on 206 Campbellsville ST, KY.

Dr. Cecil Todd of Revival Fires Ministries in Branson, MO will be the guest speaker. This event is to honor all our veterans and their families and to raise support to purchase Bibles for our troops in Afghanistan. Dr. Todd's message is entitled "Wake Up, America- Land That I Love" All veterans and active military will be recognized and honored.

Growing up as his younger brother's catcher in their back yard, Campbellsville University junior Richie Rowland and his brother Robby dreamed of playing in the pros like their dad. The two will now make that a reality when they sign contracts with the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend and report together to the Missoula (Mont.) Ospreys on Tuesday for rookie league.

COLUMBIA, KY - The cost of college will be a little lighter for two incoming Lindsey Wilson College freshmen because of the generosity of State Rep. John "Bam" Carney.

Erica Cowan of Campbellsville, KY, and Dustin Graves of Columbia, KY, received the Don and June Carney Opportunity Scholarship on Thursday from Carney.

Cowan is the daughter of Donny and Phillis Cowan, and she is a graduate of Taylor County High School; Graves is the son of Eric and Tammy Graves, and he is a graduate of Adair County High School.

Blueberries have arrived at the Farmer's Market

Myra Harrison reports at 6:20amCT that the variety of vegetables, fruits, plants and vegetables is bigger this morning, Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Adair Farmers' Market, located in the Extension Office Parking Lot, 409 Fairground ST, Columbia, KY, open 6am-10amCT, this Friday.

There are fat, rain plumped just picked Adair County grown blueberries, rhubarb for pies, a variety of herb plants, and in a little while, she says, Caitlyn Bunnell will arrive with homemade wheat and white bread.

There are four vendors today. Here are some of the items each has:
  • J & J Produce: White turnips. Greens. Zucchini. Onions. Red New Potatoes. White New Potatoes. Yellow Squash
  • Myra Harrison: Sugar Snap Peas. Beets. Mustard Greens. Kale. Several different Lettuces. Tomato Plants. And Herb Plants: Oregano, Sage, Lemon Balm, Chives, and Parsley.
  • Margie Rooks: Cabbage. Onions. Red Potatoes. Rhubarb. Zucchini. Beets
  • Darrell Bunnell: Blueberries. Lots of Flower Plants. And, his daughter Caitlyn is expected anytime with Homemade White and Homemade Wheat Bread.
Myra Harrison said that the buyers have been wonderful this year. "We really appreciate all the support we're getting. We've got an excellent selection this morning and one more vendor. The produce is really good, and everyone is having a good time," but added, "gardens are a little later coming in this year, so we expect to have even more growers and more variety each of the next sales days."

Tornado touchdown in Adair County confirmed

Twister touched down on the William Feese place. Destroys barn, uproots trees. Adair County Fire Department, SAR on standby as tornado reports came in

National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist Joe Sullivan and WAVE Radio's Weather Expert Daniel Wilson surveyed damage and confirmed an EF-0 tornado touchdown in Adair County on Wednesday evening, June 9, just before 6:30pmCT.

The tornado with wind speeds just over 80 MPH, briefly touched down on Highway 61 at the home of William Feese.
