Tornado touchdown in Adair County confirmed Twister touched down on the William Feese place. Destroys barn, uproots trees. Adair County Fire Department, SAR on standby as tornado reports came in By Dan Wilson, WAVE Radio National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist Joe Sullivan and WAVE Radio's Weather Expert Daniel Wilson surveyed damage and confirmed an EF-0 tornado touchdown in Adair County on Wednesday evening, June 9, just before 6:30pmCT. The tornado with wind speeds just over 80 MPH, briefly touched down on Highway 61 at the home of William Feese. A barn with two horses inside was destroyed, but none were hurt. Numerous trees were downed along the brief, two minute length/path of the tornado, with one tree partially uprooted, which fell on a garage, as the tornado dissipated about two miles west of Columbia, KY. The damage to the barn and the size of the downed trees were consistent with EF-0 tornado damage with winds in the 80-83 MPH range. Sullivan, who was assisted by intern August Vernon, said the total length of the tornado was approximately 2/3 of a mile with a width of 40 yards. Numerous local individuals, including pilots and trained weather spotters, witnessed the tornado, saw debris, and heard the sound of the small twister as it left destruction. Adair County Emergency Management Coordinator Greg Thomas was also on the scene and stated that Adair County Fire Departments units and the Adair County Search and Rescue (SAR) were on alert in case they were needed.
