News from Lindsey Wilson College

COLUMBIA, KY - The cost of college will be a little lighter for two incoming Lindsey Wilson College freshmen because of the generosity of State Rep. John "Bam" Carney.

Erica Cowan of Campbellsville, KY, and Dustin Graves of Columbia, KY, received the Don and June Carney Opportunity Scholarship on Thursday from Carney.

Cowan is the daughter of Donny and Phillis Cowan, and she is a graduate of Taylor County High School; Graves is the son of Eric and Tammy Graves, and he is a graduate of Adair County High School.

To be considered for the scholarship, students must:
  • have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale
  • have participated in extracurricular activities such as school clubs, offices, organizations and athletics and/or community service
  • possess characteristics of good citizenship, maturity and leadership
  • and plan to attend Campbellsville or Lindsey Wilson in the fall following the recipient's senior year of high school
Carney, whose 51st House District covers Adair and Taylor Counties, created the scholarship in honor of his parents.

He funds the scholarship, which helps pay the cost of tuition, from his state legislator's salary. Carney's scholarship supports graduates of Adair County, Campbellsville or Taylor County high schools to attend either Campbellsville University or Lindsey Wilson.
