Little kitten found crying in the rain is back home

Tara Hansen Hadley sent us wonderful news! The adorable little kitten which was crying in the rain outside the Dwight Hadley home in East 80, and was given temporary sanctuary and a lot of lasting love by the family, is now back where he belongs.

"Thanks to you guys, the kitten has found its original home!," Tara wrote. "Thanks for listing him so fast. A wonderful family called and said they were missing one of their kittens. It seems the kitten may have gotten in a truck belonging to someone working on their home, then jumped out of the bed of the truck while it was moving," and added, "He seems all happy that he has found his home again. Thanks so much!!!!!!!"

It was a less than 24-hour turn-around. But there are still lost and found pets and pets needing adoption in CM Classified Animals. We hope you'll take a look; maybe there will be a few more happy endings.

The Battered Innocence

When I pick up a James Lee Burke novel, I get set for a stomach-wrenching, moral roller coaster ride. Not a one of his characters who must confront himself fails to do so without taking me along for the ride.

I just discovered his 1985 short story collection The Convict. There be not a dud among the nine included, but the title story is the clincher.

Rev. Joey N. Welsh: The enduring power of an image

Another Angle. The enduring power of an image was first published 4 June 2006 in the Hart County News-Herald.

By The Rev. Joey N. Welsh

Any quick perusal of the Bible shows that the very word image is a powerful and important thing, a vital biblical concept from the beginning to the end of the scriptures. In Genesis 1:26 we read that God, as part of the unfolding of creation, intended to make human beings, "... in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

Poetry by Robert Stone: What can no longer be

What can no longer be
-a sonnet by Robert Stone
When mind goes blank when sonnet time has come,
and thinking seems to further wash it bare,
one should just say today both deaf and dumb
no witty words are waiting here to share.

When body fails when simple needs have called,
and extra effort is but wasted work,
one should accept that much in future sprawled
will be facades behind which daemons lurk.

When spirit languishes when hope is low,
and kindly comments sting as jabbing taunts,
one should reject all memories of woe
and only fix upon the healing wants.

Remember not what can no longer be.
Let love take charge so that dislike will flee.
- Robert Stone, 6 June 2010
