Adorable kitten found in rain, needs home

2010-06-05 - Photo from nice rescuer. East 80 Estates, Columbia, KY
Sunday, June 6, 2010: A happy ending. He's back in his original home.
Free Kitten: This adorable little male kitten was crying outside our house last night when it was raining. Since we live right off East 80 we don't have the heart to let him outside as he might get run over. The kitten is male with great markings. He seems very healthy and playful. We need the kitten gone because we have dogs that aren't cat friendly. Please help us find him a good home. Thanks! Phone (270) 384-4928.

Ellen Zornes work is always
in the direction of doing good for others

About: Ellen Zornes featured in June 2010 Kentucky Living

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Hats off to Ellen!

Anyone who knows her knows that she is constantly involved in some type of community project and if you have ever met her, you know that she can quickly get you involved, as well, without you even realizing it.

She is quite an immovable force that spins in so many directions that often she is not even sure where she is heading.

However, regardless of the direction it is always toward doing good for others.

Thank you, Ellen, for all that you have done and continue to do for our community!

s/Patty Jones

Elmo was a funny, smart cat

Elmo is gone now. He always came on visits to Kentucky, writer remembers in this thoughtful essay on the loss of a pet. She encourages those who have lost a beloved dog or cat to find a place in their hearts for another animal - and help reduce the tragedy of the high number of euthanizations at animal shelters
Inspired upon seeing: Bev Merritt with beloved pet Sugar

By Tami Wilson

Just a note to say that I empathize with Bev Merritt in the loss of her dog.

I lost my beloved cat, Elmo last April due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

He always came with me on my visits to KY, and was a very funny and smart cat. He was only 11 when he passed.

Arvest and Clara Rodgers celebrate 50th Anniversary

There weren't many good paying jobs in Adair Co., KY, in 1960. Newly married by Rev. V.V. Capps, they moved immediately to Mooresville, IN, where they've built a wonderful life together. But they still get homesick for Columbia, for Southern homecooking at Betty's, and their kin and acquaintances back home, and vow, again, "We'll be coming to Columbia, soon."

By Clara Rodgers

My husband Arvest & I are celebrating 50 years of marriage today. We were married June 4,1960. We got married in Columbia by the late VV Capps.

Arvis was living here in Indiana. We came home to Mooresville that night. We have lived here all these 50 years.

Artist's critique of John E. Moss photo: A gorgeous spiral ...

About: Reflection In The Mirror a photo by John E. Moss of the Doughboy Statue in Monument Square, Jamestown, Kentucky

To Robert Stone, forwarded to ColumbiaMagazine.com:

This is incredible! The angle, catching it in the mirror, and contrast of the surrounding room, even the part reflected in the mirror ... against the bright of the outdoor scene is incredible. The bright sky through the trees yanks the eye down to the distant roof, from which I see gleam on the statue, which sets my eye to focusing and roaming about the statue itself. Then, the eye roams around the rest, the items in the room ... the light on the oranges(?) and the way they're stacked leads right back up to the reflection in the mirror again ...

A gorgeous spiral ...

A plea to help struggling U.S. veterans

Writer suggests a fundraiser to help Veterans, in much the same way communities hold fund raisers to fight disease, support other worthy causes

By Clay Jones

To whom this may concern

As I sit and read your articles tonight, I am curious.

I see all this support and love for the Relay for Life program. Many businesses, schools, and other organizations take part in this event each, and every, year.

I do tip my hat to them, for what they are trying to do

My concern is the homeless vets, the vets who are struggling to find a decent meal, the vets who are struggling to just get out of bed to face another day of life, afraid of what they have become and what they must face now that they are home.
