A plea to help struggling U.S. veterans

Writer suggests a fundraiser to help Veterans, in much the same way communities hold fund raisers to fight disease, support other worthy causes

By Clay Jones

To whom this may concern

As I sit and read your articles tonight, I am curious.

I see all this support and love for the Relay for Life program. Many businesses, schools, and other organizations take part in this event each, and every, year.

I do tip my hat to them, for what they are trying to do

My concern is the homeless vets, the vets who are struggling to find a decent meal, the vets who are struggling to just get out of bed to face another day of life, afraid of what they have become and what they must face now that they are home.

There is nothing said, or done for them, except on Memorial Day.

That is the day on which 99% of the nation take a paid holiday from work on a three day weekend to go to the beach and BBQ all day long.

How could we forget the prices that have been paid, and the price that is yet to be paid by these men and women of the US Armed Forces.

I say have a fund raiser for them. Take a few seconds to draw some change from your pocket to help them make it one more day.

I already know what you are going to say, "that is what the Veterans Administration is for."

In this new world that we live in, folks, we few proud vets are hard pressed to find good VA care because of the scores of thousands of returning vets from Iraq, Afghanistan, and other far off hell holes that we have served in.

The Veterans who came before us in previous wars, they understand this.

I am not asking much.

But how about taking care of the ones who took care of you.

Remember this: I will always serve you, so you can always sleep safe at night.
