Kentucky Color - Groundhog Day

Chuck, the orphaned groundhog, was well behaved spectator at recent Campbellsville High School Baseball game. Kim Hayes with the Kentucky Division of Forestry assumed temporary custory of the little fellow whose kind are prey now to increasing scourge of coyotes.

I consider myself to be an activist for the rights of animals. I believe all species have an inalienable right to lead lives that somewhat resemble their niche in the Animal Kingdom. I believe we as humankind are doing a disservice to Creation by making Beagles into lap dogs, Retrievers into house dogs, cats into vegetarians, and rats into caged trapeze artists.

However it was quite refreshing to have watched a Campbellsville High School baseball game with this orphaned groundhog. He or she, I don't know which for I was remiss in inquiring, seemed to enjoy the game as much as the rest of the folks.

Active motorcyclist Bodenbender is actually 88!

About: Hoosiers make 3rd BMW rally at Burkesville

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Loved the article. Just a slight misspelling of the last name. Like I like to tell people, just use every letter in the alphabet twice. Also Dad's age is 88. He's proud of every year.

Thanks again!

s/Randall Bodenbender
Pekin, IndianaThanks. German names are hard for us, but we appreciate the necessity for proper spelling. We've changed the spelling in the article and corrected your father's age. Hope your Father comes with you next time you're in The Flatwoods. Also, we'd remind readers that your hometown, beautiful Pekin, Indiana, has the longest continuously running Fourth of July in America. That's probably in the World Record Book of Guinesses, or (had) ought to be.

Another Eppitomie: It's Wild Babies Year at CM

An excellent image from Ebenezer by Judy Corbin, along with a picture of Joe the Juvenile Squirrel from Bub Polston this morning created a Eureka moment here at CM central:
This is Wild Babies Year at ColumbiaMagazine!
Usually, such a insight would have led us to brand it much more quickly; to plan to print tee shirts. Have a logo flash on the screen CNN fashion. It does bring to mind a long held CM cause: To endear the Opossum to the public. Next to unsung internet editors, and you, whereever you are, Opossums may be the most underappreciated contributors to our society.

They are a somewhat unloved and too often et furry animal.

The urge to something nice for them comes from a favorite children's book character, Oopie Opossum, created by my first wife Linda, and missing a photo from the Flood of 2010, a wet pedestrian Opossum (we don't use the "P" word in reference to these friends) hurrying along Corbin Richards Road on May 2, 2010. It was enough to make a Tree Hugger forget about shedding more tears each morning for the whales.

It was a sad, but inspiring sight.

Opossum courage is not a bad behavior model either.

Rickie Williams like the Bodenbender/Casey story

About: Hoosiers headed for Indiana, up rainy KY 61 in The Flatwoods

Rickie Williams

You did a dandy job on the motorcycle story. Hopefully next year you can remind us all of the event before it takes place so we might venture to Burkesville, KY, to see all of the bikes.

Also, car shows are abundant this time of year. There was a classic VW event at the Somerset Mall this past Saturday...but I didn't get to go.

Thanks for all you do.
