Harold Burton was the winner in a crowded field of candidates for the Republican nomination for First District Magistrate, which includes Eunice-Pellyton, Little Cake, and White Oak precincts. He'll face Democrat Robby Selch in the November 9, 2010, general election. Selch had no opposition. The seat became vacant when the very able Magistrate Danny Goodin chose to run for county judge executive. Burton received 203 votes, 27,28% of the vote in the district, to win. Dave Powell was second with 178 votes, followed by, in order, Bobby Ray Lee, Joshua Wes Ellis, Billy B. Smith, Donnie G. Curry, and Ronald G. Meeks. Burton didn't wait for the results to reach Columbia and then Frankfort, he checked the results posted on the front doors of the polling stations shortly after 6pmCT, totted the numbers, and knew he had the nomination won.
